The Allendale Wolf Beachcombing's Bizarre History Blog
Using a great deal of quoted material from the late Charles Fort, Dr. Beachcombing attempts to show the last wolf in England (not Ireland or Scotland!) breathed its last in 1905, not, as generally supposed, in the reign of Henry VII. But there's more to the tale, as pointed out by Fort in his book Lo! and by Dr. Beachcombing in this bit of Fortean and cryptozoological history. Dr. Beachcombing gleans more from the tales of lupine lore in a post that depends on the writings of a "Greek antiquarian," as seen in The Werewolf of Temesa. A former Blackwater employee now living in Hawaii reports on a menehune encounter in which the creatures attempted to snatch a couple's baby from their home, whereupon the husband fired his 45 at them. The menehune were said to look "like little midgets" of Hawaiian ethnicity. And in California, a Georgetown man shoots creature thinking it was Chupacabras; but it was only a mangy bear cub.
On Janaury 12, a stationary wildlife camera captured a photo of a mountain lion in Chesterfield, Missouri. It's the first confirmed sighting in St. Louis County since 1994, and the 13th in the state since the animal was declared extinct in Missouri. Mountain lions were largely driven from the state by deforestation and hunting by the 1920s. The state hasn’t had a breeding population in decades. The closest groups of cougars live in Nebraska and South Dakota. Elsewhere, Lindsay Selby reports on a crypid in Gambia, Africa, that is said to resemble a man-sized owl in The Kikiyaon, real or imaginary? The description provided by witnesses suggest it may also refer to the Sasabonsam, a sort of vampire that's similarly described in local myths.

Darren Naish's post concerns the Egyptian painting of a "pygmy mammoth" found on the tomb wall of Rekhmire, "Governor of the Town" of Thebes, and vizier of Egypt during the reigns of Tuthmose III and Amenhotep II (c. 1479 to 1401 BCE). If Rekhmire's elephant is neither a Siberian mammoth nor a wrongly-scaled 'symbolic' elephant, as some have suggested, could it be a depiction of one of the pygmy Mediterranean island-dwelling species? Most of the dwarf Mediterranean elephants were Pleistocene animals that were long gone by the time of the Pharoahs, but it has been noted that a population of dwarfed elephants seem to have lingered on in isolation on the Greek island of Tilos. And on the other side of the size spectrum, the Legendary giant crayfish species is discovered in Tennessee, found hiding under a rock. no less. The post writer notes: "Cryptozoologists might want to savor this moment - this is probably the closest real scientific equivalent to finding mythical creatures like Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster that they're ever going to get."

Review: Bigfoot Truth N Lies 1-18-11
This was a terrific show, with guest Billy Willard of Sasquatch Watch of Virginia, who discussed his founding of that group with his son in 2005, as well as his experiences in the field, particularly with field partner Tom L., such as when the two were in the Pine Barrens in New Jersey near a cranberry bog when they heard in the dark something heavy splash into the water and splash around, but they did not see anything because of fog that night. He also discussed that the terrain in Virginia is vastly different from the Pacific Northwest (a question I asked him), as well as I also asked him what he thought of John Green's statement that there were more sightings on the East Coast than the PNW, and Billy thought that it could be true. He also talked about that he will be speaking, along with Eric Altman, at Cabella's Sporting Goods Store in I believe Virginia at the end of the month, which is a great thing. I also announced about the upcoming Conferences. Next week will be the final Bigfoot Truth N Lies on BTR, beginning at 7:00 EST/6:00 Central. The borough of South Tyneside in the UK is said to be home to three anthropomorphic cryptids: the Cleadon Critter, a Bigfoot-type hairy hominid; the Splitback Demon (an odd “lizard man”); and a hairless, blue-skinned, blue-eyed weirdo called, well, Blue Eyes. But now comes news of a fourth. Witnesses report a man standing in the middle of the road wearing a long, black coat with a hood, who banged on their car with the flat of his hand as it came to a stop. An eccentric human? Not exactly, as although from the waist up the stranger looked reasonably conventional, from the waist down he was anything but. He had two legs, but they were not human legs; they were actually those of a horse. Elsewhere, Loren Coleman discovers that to locals the famous St. Augustine Giant Octopus of 1896 is apparently Florida’s Invisible Monster. Will that change now that it's made the local news as St. Augustine's Monster Mystery.

A December 29, 1960, encounter in the woods near Renwer, Manitoba, Canada, finally makes its way into the news after 70-year-old Archie Motkaluk, upset by a television commentator's claims that the creatures don't exist, dragged out the book in which he detailed his encounter the day it happened. Motkaluk never told anyone about the encounter except his mother until this past Christmas. Motkaluk's mother encouraged the young man, 20-years-old at the time, to sketch what he had seen. Meanwhile, as a follow-up to a recent article intended to remove some confusion in Yeti identification, entitled Clarifications on "Dzu-Teh" as The Big Yeti, Together with an Ecological Specification for It , Dale Drinnon offers background to the previous article with lots of images in Footnotes on "Dzu-Teh". John Willison Green is a legendary figure in the history of sasquatch research. He wrote some of the most informative books on the subject and he acquired a database of sightings and encounters that is invaluable and unrivaled. He documented the subject like no one else and corresponded with anyone interested in the sasquatch. John’s contributions are well known; his epic tome “Sasquatch: the Apes Among Us” is the penultimate sasquatch book. After many years of tireless interest and inquiry, it’s time to gather in John’s hometown and celebrate his lifetime contribution to our bigfoot world. A Conference and Tribute Banquet at the Harrison Hot Springs Resort & Spa
The Sasquatch Summit will pay tribute to legendary sasquatch author and researcher John Green in his hometown of Harrison Hot Springs, British Columbia. Just 2 hours east of Vancouver, B.C.
The event will be a gathering of bigfoot researchers, authors and enthusiasts brought together to celebrate the life and contributions of John Green. Friday, April 8th will start with registration opening at 4pm, and continue into the evening with light snacks and a no-host bar at an informal ‘Meet & Greet’ reception. Later there will be Round Table Discussions with well-known authors and investigators, a chance to catch up with friends, and time to browse amongst the vendors tables.
The conference is scheduled for Saturday, April 9th from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm. The presentations will focus on local sasquatch encounters, the current status of research, and the lifetime involvement of John Green in regards to sasquatch investigation. John himself will participate in a question and answer session as well.
A tribute banquet will take place Saturday evening from 6:30 – 9:00 pm. Unique sasquatch artifacts and evidence will be on display; rare books and commemorative items will also be available.
Head out late Saturday night for an informal expedition or gather in the outdoor hot springs and enjoy the midnight air.
Tickets: $80 -includes admission to all events and banquet dinner.

The fine print! PLEASE NOTE: Ticket prices may be increasing after February 15, 2011. Purchasing your ticket prior to this date will avoid any potential rise in costs. $50 of the ticket price is to pay for the banquet itself, and includes provincial taxes and pre-paid gratuities. The number of tickets available is limited due to space/Fire Marshall regulations. We cannot guarantee that there will be tickets available to purchase ‘last minute’ at the event. Unfortunately, due to conference contract restrictions refunds will not be available within 30 days of the event. Event organizers and resort staff reserve the right to refuse admission to anyone. Disruptive behavior will result in removal from the event. Event organizers will not be held responsible for activities conducted outside of the Harrison Hot Springs Resort and Spa facilities.
