That Thunderbird Photo Frontiers of Zoology
About a half century after it was first reported, people are still looking for a "misplaced" photo that showed a bird nailed to a barn with six cowboys standing under it with fingertips touchig to mark six fathoms. Dale A. Drinnon's guess as to why nobody has been able to find the photo again is that the description of the photo from Saga magazine was wrong: "near enough right to ring a bell with people who had seen the montage but not exact enough that the original could be recognised again by going on the published description." In short, the photo was a montage. Elsewhere, reports of The Patagonian Giants in the 16th century through the 18th century from Enigmas, a book of unexplained facts by Rupert T. Gould. And Architeuthis on Ice: Discovering The Giant Squid is an excerpt from Wendy Williams' Kraken: The Curious, Exciting, and Slightly Disturbing Science of Squid.
