The Hubbub Over the Hand MSNBC
In today's maverick science reports: The Chandra X-ray Observatory has returned an impressive image of a formation astronomers have dubbed PSR B1509-58, an appellation not nearly as catchy as the public's reference to the stellar image as "the Hand." Does this image really show a "pulsar" generating an electromagnetic field 15 trillion times as strong as the field generated by Earth? Elsewhere, while astronomers are saying "exploding bubbles of magnetic energy might have helped form galaxy clusters," TPOD commentator Stephen Smith says it isn't so in Bubble Magnets. Meanwile, a researcher thinks "vog" was the culprit in one of history's odd weather incidents, as reported in Strange 1761 Atmospheric Phenomenon Explained.
