Review: Monsterquest 8-6-08
This was a rather interesting (if a bit tedious) episode, dealing with Vampires in America, which had perfectly plausible explanations. Bodies from the past which had blood around their mouths were mistaken for vampires, but turned out to have a more plausible explanation, and the bodies seem to be moving, but again it has a more plausible explanation. Several investigators look into the Vampire Mystery, such as Michael Bell, Nick Bellantoni and one other investigator, who mainly looked into the phenomenon of psychic vampires. There are two people who are interviewed who claim to be real vampires, but blood tests run on them show they are perfectly normal and not actual vampires. An author, Konstantinus, who knows a great deal about real vampirism is also interviewed and dispels myths about vampires, such as they only come out at night and cannot survive in daylight. A Brit reviews a Brit and it's a hug fest for Nick Redfern's new book There's Something in the Woods. Redfern's recent appearance on Coast to Coast, where he discussed his two-year transatlantic hunt, investigating Bigfoot, werewolves, lake monsters, Mothman-type creatures, UFOs and crop circles, is summarized in Cryptozoology, UFOs and Crop Circles. Speaking of which, in Crop Circles & People Redfern points us to a new video made by Matthew Williams, the only person ever arrested, charged and convicted for making a crop circle.

E-Book Review: The Bigfoot Film Journal by Chris Murphy
This e-book, the first from Hancock House, is a terrific one, dealing exclusively with the Patterson/Gimlin Movie, and it's a good one. It deals with the timeline issue surrounding the filming and the controversies surrounding that, as well as speculating in favor of the film's authenticity. It also deals very fairly with both sides of the issue, pro and con, and Murphy even uses information from Greg Long and his book The Making Of Bigfoot. Of course, the efforts of those past and present are highlighted-notables such as Grover Krantz, John Green, Rene Dahinden, Peter Byrne, Patterson and Gimlin themselves, M.K. Davis, Jeff Glickman and the work NASI did, the Russian scientists, such as Dmitri Bayanov, Igor Bourtsev and Dmitri Donskoy and the British scientists, such as Don Grieve and John Napier. The book is illustrated profusely throughout with illustrations, mainly by Brenden Bannon, as well as photos and papers and other items scattered throughout. There are also links to items online which correspond to the subject matter which can be perused. When this is made available widely, I do recommend getting it. Probably the most important book on the film since Bigfoot At Bluff Creek and America's Bigfoot: Fact, Not Fiction.

This was a GREAT show, with guest Dan Gordon, retired police officer from Whitehall, New York who described his 1982 sighting near the town, as well as his four heart attacks which prevent him from taking to the woods. The Georgia body situation was discussed briefly, but there is a gag order over that, so Steve could not delve too deeply into that. Several questions came from the chat, and I called in, as well as Bill Green (who attempted to get to the bottom of the situation with the Georgia body and was denied) and Mike Killen, who of course has a good deal of knowledge about the New York sightings and especially the Whitehall activity. Review: BIPCast Number 5: Bigfoot In The Big Thicket
This is a great Podcast, set in the Big Thicket of Texas, with Brian Brown trudging through the heat and rain and bugs, at least a good 8-mile round trip, with members of the Texas Bigfoot Research Conservancy. He even interviews Chris Buntenbah (AKA Camera Trapper), Daryl Colyer and a fellow named Ken, who discuss the camera trap operations the TBRC is undertaking, with anywhere up to 75 cameras in select areas in the Big Thicket, to attempt to catch one fleeting image of a Sasquatch. Brian asks some really great questions of the TBRC members, and really gives a great perspective on their operations and what they are doing to further research. Great job, Brian, and I look forward to more.

Editorial: Is there a Bigfoot Body in the Peach State?
I have held off on writing about this because I had initially written it off as a joke, especially considering how the gentlemen who make this claim were acting towards the Bigfoot community, but I have decided to throw my two cents in on this issue. About two or three weeks ago, two gentlemen, Ric Dyer and a fellow named Gary, set up a website called bigfoottracker.com where they made the extraordinary claim that they had the ultimate piece of proof of the existence of a North American hairy biped-a body! They issued a series of video vignettes where they offended much of the Bigfoot community and bashed all Bigfooters in general, which caused a great deal of consternation in the BF community. The latest stunts these fellows pulled were burning Loren Coleman's Bigfoot book and essentially making themselves look bad. However, perhaps these stunts are being done in an effort to distract Bigfooters from the true nature of the find. Do I agree with their tactics? Not necessarily, but if indeed they do have the goods, then their tactics will ultimately not matter in the end. I think the Bigfoot community will benefit ultimately if indeed these guys from Georgia do have a body. They have set a deadline for themselves of September 1st, and the rest of us are waiting and counting the days till then. If indeed this news is true, then the Bigfoot field as we know it will change drastically, and there will be legislation proposed for protection of these unique creatures and there will be even more expeditions going into the field to look for a domecile of these individuals to study them in their natural habitat. There will be T-Shirts, posters, action figures, websites, new books and documentaries. It will be a very exciting time, for sure, especially for the Bigfoot community, and the rest of the world as well, and the world I think will benefit from it. It will be just one more unknown species which becomes known at last. Let us all reserve judgment until September 1st and see what these guys have. I know I am.

Thirty-five years ago the residents of Durham, ME, were all agog over reports of a gorilla-like presence in the forest. Was it a chimpanzee, a person wearing a costume, Bigfoot or a genuine gorilla? Maine's main cryptozoologist, author and lecturer Loren Coleman of the International Cryptozoology Museum, will lead an informal traipse through the Durham area this month in celebration of the event. Strange Hominid Sighting in York County, PA Phantoms & Monsters
Like Elvis, Bigfoot seems to be busier than ever. What is thought to be a juvenile Bigfoot has been reported near the York County, PA, town of Red Lion. Being described as only about four feet tall, the "juvenile" appellation was attached to the creature sighted July 18. Could this relatively diminutive hominid be an albatwitch? Meanwhile, the discovery of a "monstrous" corpse on a Long Island beach has led to a compendium entitled The Montauk Monster and the Best Cryptids of All-time, and speculation about the Montauk Monster has one columnist saying Authenticity of the Montauk Monster Contested by Scientists.
As British scientists continue to probe the origins of hairs brought from the northeastern India Garo Hills location where locals claim to have seen a "wild man" five years ago, hopes remain high that the hairs are those of an unknown hominoid species.
