Reviews: Monsterquest/Bigfoot Live 7-30-08

Monsterquest was great tonight, about the Legends of the Hairy Beast or Hairy Man, with several Northern Californian Native Americans who described sightings and also their legends, including of the Mayak' Datat' of the Yurok Tribe, which Kathy Strain has been looking into for many years (she was also on the episode to discuss her impressions and the history of the Hairy Man), along with the Pictographs of the Mayak' Datat". John Freitas is interviewed about a 2001 encounter he and James "Bobo" Fay had where Fay had a sighting of a Bigfoot. Fay and Cliff Barackman are interviewed on their impressions and thoughts on the Northern California sightings, as well as going on expedition where they go out on the Klamath River in a boat doing call-blasting, as well as following an expedition in the Suattle River Valley in Washington State with Dr. Briggs Hall and Bill Evans where they set up gamecams and some bait in a tree 12 feet high. There are also some sound recordings analyzed and one of them seems to be quite intriguing to the analyst. Next week, MQ investigates Vampires in America, beginning at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central on History. Check local listings for time and channel.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Over on Bigfoot Live, Several guests were on to discuss various sightings and also about their research into it, as well as announcements about the upcoming expedition to Bluff Creek by Bigfoot Inc. in September where Bob Heironimus and Sean Fries will be participating. The highlight of the night was the fellows from Bigfoottracker.com Rick Dyer and Gary, who took some terrific questions from the chat and also from some callers, and there were several of those. It was a great show. Dunno what Tom and the crew have planned for next week, but it starts at 10:00 EST/9:00 Central at Bigfoot Live, Wednesday Nights at 10:00 EST/9:00 Central

You can also download past episodes via Podcast there as well. And as always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.

Review: Bigfoot Quest 7-29-08

This was a great call-in/roundtable show, with several callers, including myself, Bill Green, Steve Summar, Steve Kulls, Marc Footery and Thomas (Smiter), discussing Mike's finding on private property a rock stack, as well as the current Bigfoot Body situation from Georgia, which overlapped into the last few minutes of the show. It was quite a heated discussion, but made for great radio. Dunno what KABC and Lean and Mean Mike Killen have planned for next week, but it starts at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central at Bigfoot Quest, Tuesday Nights at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central You can also download past episodes there, as well as subscribe via iTunes. Book Review Redux: John Green's Books

Book Review of Sasquatch: The Apes Among Us
Author: John Green

I bought this book back in late-January 2004 from an ebay auction and read it voraciously. It is THE bible of all books on the subject. The book boasts information on sightings from all over the United States and western Canada, with several onsite interviews with witnesses conducted by Green himself. Topics covered range from the Patterson/Gimlin film, to classic Sasquatch stories, to creatures around the world, to Indian legends, to mysteries set in stone, to various other aspects of the Sasquatch mystery. At 492 pages, this book is a marathon read, but highly recommended to all who are interested. The book has been reprinted by its original publisher, Hancock House, two years ago, but the original can be purchased at www.abebooks.com for a reasonable price.

Book Review of "The Best of Sasquatch-Bigfoot
Author and editor: John Green

I received this book yesterday (September 14th, 2004) . I have read the books that are compiled in this collection before ("On The Track Of The Sasquatch" and "Encounters With Bigfoot", also known as "Year Of The Sasquatch"), but there is new material in the first four chapters of the book. The first chapter, "The Ape and The IM Index", examines the various ways that people have tried to debunk the Patterson/Gimlin film (without success, of course), as well as the Intermembral Index which determines how long the arms are in proportion to the legs. In humans, it's 70, while in the P/G film creature, it's in the high-80's, which makes it impossible to be a human in a costume. The second chapter, "Recent Developments", discusses some of the prominent scientists who have come forward in defense of the Sasquatch, such as the late Dr. Grover Krantz, the late Dr. Leroy Fish, Dr. Jeff Meldrum, Dr. Jane Goodall, Dr. Russell Mittermier and several other luminaries. The Skookum Cast is also examined, as are the dermal ridge footprints examined by Jimmy Chilcutt.Chapter 3 focuses on the media attention which surrounded the death of Ray Wallace in late-2002, and the chapter is appropriately called, "Bigfoot Did Not Die". The final chapter is called "100,000 Reward", which is a real reward given to anyone who can successfully duplicate the tracks found in and around Bluff Creek, California. The first four chapters are an excellent setup for the rest of the book, which is wonderfully written and researched. Get this book if you can. The book can be purchased for $15.95 from www.hancockhouse.com

Book Review: The Sasquatch File By John Green

This short booklet, clocking in at just over 70 pages, was released in 1973, and was the most up-to-date book at that time to sightings taking place not just in the Pacific Northwest, but all over the country, and it's a good one. Green definitely did a great bit of research and received many reports at that time and put them all in the booklet, including the most famous cases, but also quite a lot of lesser known cases from all over the U.S. and Canada. There are quite a few photos and illustrations throughout the book, as well as near the end some statistical information on sightings in the U.S. and Canada, such as sighting patterns, food source stats, color and other important observations by Mr. Green. I do highly recommend this book if you can find it (it can be found sometimes on eBay or at abebooks.com or bookfinder.com) Your John Green book collection is not complete without this one. 4 stars!!!!!!
Reports of a recent Sasquatch sighting by berry pickers in northwestern Ontario, Canada, are receiving continued media coverage, as evidenced in this report. There's even more on the sighting, including some related photos, in Berry-Pickers Report Sasquatch Sighting and 'Looked 8 Feet Tall'. Meanwhile, Regan Lee at Trickster's Realm takes aim at skeptics in the overall search for Bigfoot with Bigfoot Fever: Bigfoot and the Skeptibunkers.

A dead gray wolf and a live Bigfoot were both seen alongside an Alberton, MT, highway last week. The gray wolf, a female, was easily identified, but skepticism remains over the supposed Bigfoot sighting. A driver said he spotted the tall, hairy hominoid as it approached a couple who were fly fishing in the waterway parallel to I - 90. Why is Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO) less than enchanted with this Bigfoot report? And why haven't we heard more about the BFRO's recent investigation of an alleged Bigfoot family in a rural area of New York state? Meanwhile, at Cryptomundo, Loren Coleman reveals the latest claim of Bigfoot Trackers from Georgia in Bigfoot Body "Accidentally Found".

The Bill Green Show was great, with Bill and Sean talking about the most recent Bigfoot body brouhaha, as well as the new X-Files Movie, along with news of some possible Yeti hairs found in India and a bit of a review of last night's Sasquatch Experience show. I am sure there will be more Bigfoot news, as well as DVD news and Movie news next Monday Morning, beginning at 11:00 EST/10:00 Central at The Bill Green Show, Monday Mornings at various times

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Over on Squatch Detective Radio, Steve, Becky and Billy had Rick Dyer of Bigfoottrackers.com who claim to have a Bigfoot body on Ice in an old freezer which they claim to be ready to unveil September 1st. Rick acted quite arrogantly throughout the interview, acting as if they are the best trackers of Bigfoot, and seemed to anger his core audience. They have T-Shirts and Hats available at their website with their logo which has a bit of a offensive message to it. Several folks called in during the 2 hours, including Don Keating, a fellow named Glick, Sean Forker, myself, Bill Green, Dan Gordon from Whitehall, New York, Dan from Florida and several others. Dunno what is up for next week, but it begins at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central at Squatch Detective Radio, Monday nights at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central

The senior adviser of the Boston Red Sox Major League Baseball team thinks he saw a lemur on the streets of Boston one night after a Red Sox game. In a tale that is both mildly Fortean and strongly out-of-place animal, Bill James explains his sighting, and the story is brought together with a 2002 lemur sighting twenty miles away from Boston. Is there a slightly Fortean connection between James' sighting and the 2002 sighting? Is a primitive primate hanging out near Fenway Park?

Squatchdetective Radio Show Monday July 28th @ 9:00 pm EST

Come join Steve Kulls, Billy Willard and Becky Sawyer as we discuss the hot topics in the Bigfoot world with a special 2 hour show!

"Bigfoot on Ice"

A lot of controversy over the alleged find of a Bigfoot body has stormed the Bigfoot Community. Tonight we delve into the allegations and have some shocking new revelations about two guys from Georgia claiming to have a Bigfoot body in a freezer. As the Squatchdetective has been doing his homework.

Steve uses his twenty years as a forensic interviewer and investigator, plus his usual tenacity in putting together the case, which very well could be the biggest joke ever tried on the Bigfoot Community.

And as always this is an open invitation to the founders of Bigfoottracker. com, to pony up and act like men, and come on the show and answer our questions or come clean, and if they do as we've done with other guests in similar situations, we would treat them respectfully, but also take them to task.

Will the boys show up? Only they know the answer. But we're not banking on it. They talk a good game, let's see if they have actions to back up the words.

We'll also have a few surprise guests along the way with some direct knowledge of the boys activities.

Reviews: The Bigfoot Mystery/The Sasquatch Experience

The Bigfoot Mystery was a great show, with guests Pat Rance and Jim King, who shared about their research in Florida and Mississippi, respectively. They discussed about the research they have done in their respective states, as well as vocalizations they have heard and other things, including their theories on the Forest Giants. Bill Green called in, as did Thomas, and shared some of their experiences as well. Darin also announced his new book Bigfoot and I: A Personal Journey Into The World of Sasquatch will be available at Lulu.com sometime tonight. Next week, Pat and Jim will be back as repeat guests, beginning at 7:00 EST/6:00 Central at The Bigfoot Mystery, Sunday evenings at 7:00 EST/6:00 Central

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then, Mike Rugg was on the Sasquatch Experience, and was a great guest, discussing his research and also his beginnings of his sightings and other aspects of his research. He also discussed the upcoming Bigfoot Discovery Day II event he is holding August 9th. I called in and so did Bill Green, and asked various questions. Dunno what Sean and company have planned for next week, but it begins at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central at The Sasquatch Experience, Sunday Nights at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central

Two berry picking women spotted a tall, lanky, hairy humanoid and ran to tell others. Footprints were then found, large footprints with six toes. Casts were made of the prints. The incident took place Tuesday in Kenora, Ontario, Canada. With photo. The Search For Bigfoot: Prints of a Fellow? from Time Magazine's "Exploring the Unexplained"

"I'm sure that they exist," said Jane Goodall, one of the world's leading primatologists, about the giant ape known as "Bigfoot" in 2002. Surprised? Yes, Bigfoot, the oversized, shaggy-haired primate whose natural habitat long seemed to be the pages of supermarket tabloids and late-night TV schlockumentaries, is attracting something other than dismissive sneers from the academic community. Goodall is one of a growing chorus of respected scientists who say the matter is worth serious study. George Schaller, director of science at the Wildlife Conservation Society, and Conservation International primatologist Russell Mittermier (who has discovered five new species of primates in the past 10 years) are among numerous scientists who have called for more investigation into the existence of Bigfoot. Why? Zoologists point to the raft of species once believed mythical or extinct whose existence has been confirmed in modern times: the giant squid, mountain gorilla, giant panda, okapi, coelacanth and (we hope) ivory-billed woodpecker. The "living fossil" squirrel, once known only through remains, was found thriving in Laos in March 2006. Then there's the specific evidence. Almost every known group of Native American languages contains a word for a giant ape, while archaelogical digs in the U.S. West have uncovered rock carvings of a large primate-especially fascinating since science is unaware of any large monkeys being native to North America. How could so many different cultures, most of which had no contact with one another, have independently imagined a similar unusual critter? There are recorded sightings of Bigfoot going back to the 1820s, with more than 2,500 reports since 1900. And more recently, there have been some intriguing forensic clues. The best of them is the Skookum Cast, a plaster imprint of the impression left by a large animal in a muddy Mount St. Helens meadow in 2000. When amateur Bigfoot seekers who had baited the area with a pile of fruit returned, they found that whatever had taken their stash had a large forearm, a hairy thigh, protruding buttocks and what may be an Achilles tendon. Skeptics say that if the cast is a forgery, it was done by experts. Now for the bad news. Some of the most familiar evidence for the big fellow's existence is false. In 2003 the adult children of Ray Wallace, whose 1958 "discovery" of footprints apparently left by an enormous ape in Washington State made headlines, revealed that it had all been a prank hatched by their late father. In 2004, Bob Heironimus, a retired Pepsi bottler, claimed to have climbed into a giant gorilla costume to make the famed movie at left; others involved with this film still maintain that it is real. Skeptics also point to the "habeas corpus" test: no one has ever found the remains (contemporary or fossilized) of such a creature, even though fossils turn up regularly for mammoths, dinosaurs and other creatures that disappeared from North America eons ago. Even so, Schaller-who remains unconvinced but is also unwilling to write off Bigfoot's existence-says, "There have been so many sightings over the years. Even if you throw out 95% of them, there ought to be some explanation for the rest. The same goes for some of these tracks. I think a hard-eyed look is absolutely essential."

The Search For The Yeti: Abominable Snow Job? from Time Magazine's "Exploring the Unexplained"

When Alexander the Great invaded India in 326 B.C., he was intrigued by tales of a local ape that was taller than a man, had no tail and walked upright. Alexander commanded that one be brought before him but was told the animals lived only near the tops of remote mountains. Four centuries later, the Roman historian Pliny the Elder wrote of "creatures...with human-like bodies (that) can run on both four feet and two," that lived "in the mountains...east of India." The peoples of Asia have long believed in a beast more human than any other animal yet still wild. The creature has many names; he is the nyalmo in northern India, the chemo in Nepal, the yeti in Tibet, the yeren in China, the almas in Mongolia, the mawa in Malaysia. All the names, most of which incorporate words meaning man, wild, mountain or snow, describe a 7-to-10-ft.-tall primate, covered head to foot with shaggy hair, walking erect, living in remote regions (usually at high altitudea), shy of human contact but dangerous if cornered or provoked. The most common signs of the yeti are his large footprints, left in snow or mud, and his piercing call-unnerving, mournful shrieks, usually heard at night, that carry across great distances, even in blizzards. Natives say the yeti devours yaks and sheep, which are sometimes found torn to pieces. Stories of supposed yeti harm to humans are often attempts to account for the unexplained disappearance of herdsmen, sans evidence. For Western explorers, the search for the yeti offers a chance to make reputations, either through confirming the stories (by killing or capturing one of the creatures) or disproving them. Sir Edmund Hillary, the New Zealander who first conquered Mount Everest in 1953, returned to the Himalayas in 1960, resolved to demystify the monster. After a fruitless 10-month hunt, he concluded that it was all "a fascinating fairy tale, born of the rare and frightening view of strange animals, molded by superstition, and enthusiastically nurtured by western expeditions." In the 1980s, Johns Hopkins University researcher Daniel Taylor-Ide ascribed most sightings and other evidence to a large species to a large species of indigenous bear. In the year 2000, ace Alpine mountaineer Reihold Messner also pronounced, after a years-long inquiry, that the yeti was ursine, rather than simian. Amid the fray, locals remain calm. In 1961, when French scholars told Himalayan village elder Khunjo Chumbi they believed the yeti was a hoax, he replied, "In Nepal we have neither giraffes nor kangaroos, so we know nothing about them. In France, there are no yetis, so I sympathize with your ignorance."

Review: Beyond The Edge Radio 7-25-08

This was a terrific show, with Fortean author/investigator Nick Redfern, who discussed his research into such things as Bigfoot, Big Cats, UFOs, Aliens and other mystery animals, in England and the US. Several folks called in, such as myself, Steve Kulls and Bill Green, and we all asked various questions (Steve asked about the unidentified flying humanoids phenomenon, I asked about Big Cats and the Black Beast of Exmoor and Bill asked about Nick's book projects). There were several questions from the chat as well, which were answered pretty greatly. Next week, The Paranormal Party of the Summer continues with Demon Hunter John Zaffis, beginning at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central atBeyond The Edge Radio, Friday Nights at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central

You can also download past episodes there, as well as subscribe via iTunes. And as always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.

The exact description of the “ape” was that it was a little over five feet tall, with a shaggy, black coat, and weighing about 350 pounds. Here is a summary of what was seen, by whom, and exactly where.
