Review: Monsterquest 10-8-08
This episode was a follow-up to last season's Giant Squid episode, called Giant Squid Ambush, which focuses on a piece of video of a giant squid taken in 2006 in the Sea of Cortez, off the coast of Mexico. Local witnesses were interviewed about their sightings of a giant squid measuring upwards of 100 feet. Doug Hajicek discusses the camera that was used to film the squid. Roger Hanlon, a marine biologist examines the footage, but is unable to determine the species. But, video analysis expert in engineering Peter Schmitz examines it and says it is 60 feet in length. Dr. Clyde Roper says it is not possible for a giant squid to exist, at least not a giant Humboldt Squid. In the follow-up, a team goes to Loreto Bay, once again in the sea of Cortez, to attempt to film another giant Humboldt Squid. Apparently, utilizing laser technology, there is an attempt to use that to draw in a giant squid to film it. Dale Pearson, who was part of the original team in 2006, joins this expedition in search of the giant Humboldt Squid, as do other divers. A story from World War II arises where allegedly a team of German soldiers is attacked in a lifeboat and one is dragged under. A new harness is designed which is to help with withstanding abrasions and abuse underwater when dealing with the giant Squids. The team goes under, and finds...well, watch it to see for yourself. The next new episode airs October 22, 9:00 EST/8:00 Central on the History Channel, focusing on Monster Spiders. Check local listings for time and channel.
