Editorial: Is there finally DNA evidence for Sasquatch now available?

On the second episode of the Doug Hajicek-produced series Monsterquest which aired on Wednesday, November 7th, 2007, Drs. Jeff Meldrum and Curt Nelson took a journey to a remote cabin at Snow Grove Lake 250 miles north of the capital of Ottawa, Canada, after hearing of strange activity there which involved a possible Sasquatch. They camped out in the area hoping for their own encounter, but they also found something interesting-apparently, some previous renters of the cabin had set out a board which had screws driven into it and put on the doorstep of the cabin, and the screws and board had hairs, blood and tissue samples embedded in them where something (apparently a Sasquatch) had stepped on the board. The samples were scraped off and taken back to the U.S. and examined by DNA experts and found to have mostly human genomes in them, except for 1 nucleotide which apparently matched chimpanzee genomes. So what we have is a DNA sample which appears to not match any known land mammals anywhere in North America, but, is it absolute proof of Sasquatch, the elusive proof that we have been waiting for for nearly half a century? Or will a body still be required? The results of this DNA test are pretty much preliminary right now, and more advanced test results may be as far as a year away, so I would caution the Bigfoot community not to count its chickens before they hatch and absolutely declare this DNA to be of a Sasquatch (although it does look promising at this point in time, for certain). I am hopeful that this DNA sample will be the absolute proof required to finally prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Sasquatch exists, but I still feel that a body will be required, and I am no-kill in my stance. I will hold out a slight bit of hope that this is the proof we have been searching for, but at the same time I will be cautiously optimistic.

The Drs mentioned it would take a year to definitely find out the results of the DNA samples. It has been longer than that...when will we hear the final verdict?

A little belated, perhaps, but Snelgrove Lake, not Snow Grove, is 850 miles NW of Ottawa.

Snelgrove Lake, not Snow Grove, is 850 miles NW of Ottawa, near the Manitoba border. It is also not very remote, although the Lodge owners would like the public to think so. There is a road within 1.5 miles of the lake, and the and the Slate falls airport is 4 miles to the East. Slate Falls, itself, is only a further two miles from the airport.
I do not doubt the validity of the DNA, or the Sasquatch report, but credibility is only achieved when all the facts are put forward, and other possibilities eliminated.
