From Scotland comes Peter Ross' story of Mark Fraser, "who has spent his adult life searching for some particular beasts - black panther-like creatures which he believes are roaming Scotland." Five big cat investigators research the prevalence, hunting grounds and characteristics of the forty large black cats believed to be slinking through the heather and gorse of the highlands, or making their way into some towns. Fraser, a member of Big Cats in Britain, describes himself as a cryptozoologist, meaning, of course, big cats aren't the only creatures that pique his curiosity. Here Ross accompanies Fraser as the cryptid seeker makes his rounds. Are the big cats of Scotland former pets released into the wild, or are they, as some suggest, a relic population left behind after the last Ice Age? Elsewhere, Loren Coleman's International Cryptozoology Museum wants you to decorate your Christmas tree with cryptids this year, as shown in Bigfoot & Yeti Ornaments, while BoingBoing picks up on the idea, with some raucous commentary, in Bigfoot and Yeti Christmas Tree Ornaments.

Word of the Week: Cryptozoology

Bigfoot & Yeti Ornaments

The circle of Bigfoot researchers has grown through the years, but some names still stick out. Such is the case observed by Loren Coleman in one of today's news reports concerning recent sightings of a creature in Georgia, USA, that has been dubbed the "Belt Road Booger." Is the name offered to reporter Jeff Bishop of Georgia's Times Herald in any way linked to an infamous Bigfoot hunter and a purported Bigfoot "toenail" reportedly found in Arizona? Meanwhile, one of the most often cited books on the nature of Bigfoot has reached the digital age, as explained in Bigfoot! an eBook.

The Dwarfs of Mount Atlas

New cattle mutilation reports from San Luis, CO, have prompted Colorado Mutual UFO Network investigator Chuck Zukowski, who investigated other mutilations earlier this year in other San Luis Valley locations, as well as last year's mutilation reports near Trinidad, CO, to visit the scene. Local Law enforcement agents have been unable to find any signs of human or animal attacks in the latest case, "(b)ut in the San Luis Valley, where a mutilated horse maintains celebrity status four decades after its death and a UFO watchtower graces the roadside near Hooper, some may look upward for an explanation of the incidents."

The Woman Had Black Eyes From the Shadows
Many reports have been made about "black-eyed" kids and the sense of extreme fear experienced by those who have encountered them. Among those accounts, there are occasional instances in which the darkly visaged person is not described as a child, but as an adult. Such is the case of Leanne Smith and her encounter in a Deale, MD, grocery store parking lot in 1999. What kind of being was the woman whose intense stare frightened Leanne Smith so deeply a decade ago? Meanwhile, Chris Holly discourses on the troubled state of paranormal research in The Head Banging Subject Known as the Paranormal.
