Review: Sasquatch Watch Radio 6-15-09

This was a pretty terrific show about Sound Science, referring to sounds recorded in the woods, such as something called the East Ohio Chatter, and also an interesting recording which seems to have a grunt or two in it. There was a good bit of discussion on the sounds with several callers, including Indy, Sharonlee, Stan Courtney, Tom Shirley and myself, who asked various questions and talked of various topics within the realm of sounds. Next week, Billy and DB welcome David Paulides and Harvey Pratt (The Hoopa Project, Tribal Bigfoot) beginning at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central. And as always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.

Breaking Update: Correct Length for "Olsen's Champ"? Cryptomundo
Loren Coleman observed earlier that we should have been able to come up with a ballpark figure for the length of the creature filmed by Eric Olsen on Lake Champlain. Now, with new enhanced footage that shows the wave distribution and disturbance patterns, an estimate is available. With images and several videos.

Yankee Notebook: Eyes See Champ Because It's Possible Times Argus
Vermont writer Willem Lange uses a number of cryptids in his discourse on the recent footage taken by Eric Olsen of something mysterious swimming near the shore on Lake Champlain. Many think the creature in Olsen's footage is the legendary Champ, a creature Lange says deserves better images than the cartoonish creations manufactured to depict it thus far. Some of the images are included, along with a humorous newspaper item, in Loren Coleman's report Sunday Funnies: Champ at Cryptomundo, and Coleman has also posted some archival video concerning the Russian Snowman.

Sasquatch Watch Radio Tomorrow...

Billy and DB will be doing a show on Sound Science, beginning at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central. And as always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.

Reviews: Nite Callers and HBM's Crypto-Corner 6-14-09

On Nite Callers, the guest was Billy Simmons, a former law enforcement officer from Texas, who discussed some interesting things regarding his research in that area, as well as his footprint finds and twisted tree finds. JayB called in, as did I and Mike Hall (Mike Hall to discuss the upcoming Honobia Conference in October, me to discuss my show and also mention the gamecam project Derek Randles is conducting in Washington State, and also about the most recent Monsterquest episode. Next week is a Father's Day Roundtable show, beginning at 7:00 EST/8:00 Central.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------_

On HBM's the guest was Hollywood special effects makeup artist Bill Munns, who discussed his career in that field and answered questions from Bill Green about his work on films. He also answered a good deal of questions on the Patterson/Gimlin Film that I asked and also the chatters asked, regarding his work on it, including questions on limb ratios, the software used for the digital model, the camera use and other aspects. Bill (and Foos-Squatch) even slipped in the Georgia Hoax into the show (ai, yi yi!!!). I also asked about the special-effects gurus who believe it is a hoax merely after only looking at it once. The show will be back in two weeks, with a guest (dunno who yet), 9:30 EST/8:30 Central. And as always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.

MonsterQuest Sunday

Dr. Karl Shuker reveals a 1996 correspondence with "French crypto-correspondent Michel Raynal" in which Raynal told of the claim by one of his contacts that a 17th century Spanish goblet on display at that time in Pittsburgh's Carnegie Museum of Natural History depicted a fish that appeared to be a coelacanth. Have you seen this goblet that could indicate the coelacanth was rediscovered far earlier than 1938, possibly in the Atlantic Ocean? Elsewhere, at Cryptomundo, Loren Coleman offers several images as he tries to ferret out the meaning of the word "lion" after recent reports of North Georgia's "Lions".

Review: Monsterquest 6-10-09

This was a really good episode, one of the best ones in a while, about the Indian Monkey Man, also known as the Mande Barung, a large, black, hairy manlike creature seen in the Garo Hills in Northeastern India. The beginning saw some alleged encounters within the city of Delhi of people allegedly being attacked on their rooftops and three people dying and that being blamed on the Monkey Man, which turned out to be just mass hysteria and someone dressing in a suit within the city. The more plausible creature in the Garo Hills area, the Mande Berung, is investigated by a team led by primatologist Esteban Sarmiento and local investigator Dipu Marak, who search the jungle, and also set out game cams, one still camera, one video camera. Plus, strange hairs are found, as well as a drop of blood. The hair actually turned out to be from the red panda, which is not indigineous to that area, and the blood turned out to be from a human. There is an older account of the capture of two large hairy creatures sometime from I believe the 19th Century, and also some other accounts of sightings in the Garo Hills. The still camera does not pick up anything other than something triggered it which seems to stay out of range of the camera, but the video picks up something's hind quarters off to the left of the screen which is unidentified and could possibly be a more mundane animal. If I were to rate this episode, it would be a 4 1/2 out of 5 stars, due to the objective way it was examined. Well-done, Monsterquest.

2 Shows Tomorrow...

First, on Nite Callers, the crew will have Billy Simmons, a researcher from Texas on, live from the field, beginning at 7:00 EST/6:00 Central.

Book Review: The Lake Worth Monster by Sallie Ann Clarke

Interesting mix of fact and fiction.

This book, written in the Summer of 1969 during the height of monstermania in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area, takes us into the Lake Worth/Greer Island area, where there were sightings of a half-man, half-goat, half-fish (?!) white, hairy creature, 7 feet tall and around 300-350 pounds. Many of the stories in this book are fictional, and Clarke does not hide that fact, such as stories of people being killed by the Monster (which never happened), stories of attempted injuries to people, stories of the creature carrying people off and other outrageous obvious fiction. But there are some fact-based accounts, such as tires with the rims being thrown (which I believe only happened once), as well as some stories of it jumping on cars (that MIGHT have happened once) and other more plausible stories. I would recommend this book, and give it about a 4 out of 5 stars, but it is largely fiction, with a smattering of more plausible stories thrown in. It can be ordered from Daniel Perez at Bigfoot Times for $15.00.

Review: Beyond The Edge Radio 6-12-09

This was a really great show, with guest Bill Bean, who discussed the events that occurred in his home from 1971-1980 with demonic forces that almost completely destroyed the Bean family and split up the parents, all documented in his book Dark Force. James Baker was on at the beginning with his Bake Shop segment talking about unusual vacation places and also about other things. Callers included a fellow from Vision Magazine, myself and Bruce the Creature Seeker. Dunno what the guys have planned for next week, but it begins at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central. Photos from Mike and Greg Warner's Peruvian expedition are said to be of the Yacumama or giant anaconda. Without for a moment doubting Greg and Mike's sincerity, Jon Downes thinks otherwise. Their correspondence on the photos is reprinted. The backstory is available at Lisburn Men Find Giant Snake In The Amazon.

What happened to the original bones of the so-called “Peking Man” fossils? It's been a mystery since they vanished in November of 1941 en route to the port city of Qinghuangdao in China. Now comes word that a similar mystery, involving bones of contention, may be forming on the horizon, in Africa. It involves the 2000 fossil find of the so-called "Millennium Man." Loren Coleman tracks the story.

Review: Sasquatch Triangle 6-10-09

This was mostly a rerun show from last year with guest Todd Neiss, who Don has confirmed as a tentative speaker at the 22nd-Annual Ohio Bigfoot Conference/Expo next year. The last half-hour was devoted to playing clips of sounds recorded in the Salt Fork State Park area, mostly by Scott Albaugh, and also hearing Drema Elkins' testimonial as well. It was pretty terrific. Dunno what Don has planned for next week, but it starts at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central. And as always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.

Book Review: Sasquatch/Bigfoot and the Mystery of the Wildman by Dr. Jean-Paul Debenat

Very good book on not only Bigfoot, but Pacific Northwest Culture.

This book, originally written in French by the author, has been translated by Dr. Paul LeBlond and brought to American audiences by Chris Murphy and Hancock House, and it is a good one. Dr. Debenat presents us the classics of the Sasquatch field, as well as Native American legends and eyewitness accounts. But, he goes beyond that, by presenting us with his interactions with Pacific Northwest researchers such as the late Fred Bradshaw, as well as his good friend Dr. Ed Fusch (alternate spelling: Fuchs), a prospector of precious minerals, as well as a philosopher and geologist, who gives Debenat a tour of Washington State and different areas, which Debenat describes in really terrific detail. He also talks of his friendship with the late Belgian scientist Dr. Bernard Heuvelmans, and his philosophies on Sasquatch research and on animal ecology and biology. This is one of the better books on the subject to come along in some time, and really highly recommended. There are also some really terrific photographs, several pages of color photos, which compliment the book very well. Thank you, Dr. LeBlond and Mr. Murphy, for bringing this rare treasure to American audiences.

Exclusive photos from the June 10th broadcast of MonsterQuest about the “Monkey Man." Southern Gralien Report
A woman in Burnsville, North Carolina, described an encounter with a "strange little man" in the backwoods between her home and the nearby town of Spruce Pine. The fur-covered little man had appeared and leaped onto her car one evening. Was it a raccoon, or "the little people"? The Southeast has a long tradition held among the Cherokee Indians regarding "little people" who inhabit caves and other small subterranean dwellings throughout the Appalachian Mountains. But the most fascinating accounts of contact with the Little People that Micah A. Hanks has collected from the region don't originate from the Cherokee themselves, but instead were recounted to him by locals living in the more remote areas around Western North Carolina. And still more about strange hominoids in the state in Carolina Creature Sightings.

9:00 EST/8:00 Central on History

Engrained in the history and mythology of India are tales of a ferocious creature, half-man, half-ape. It has been dubbed the monkey-man and headlines across the world have told of the vicious nocturnal attacks that occurred in India's capital, New Delhi. The city's population was gripped with fear of a violent creature described by eyewitnesses as having sharp claws, fangs and dark hair. After three people died and dozens were hospitalized fleeing the creature, 3,000 police officers were tasked with capturing the animal, but came up empty handed. Experts were divided over whether this was a case of mass panic or an unknown primate. Even today, witnesses in other parts of the country continue to report terrifying encounters with a similar beast. MonsterQuest launches an expedition and meets the victims of the monkey man, sees their scars first hand and searches for a connection to the most recent sightings.
