Beyond The Edge Radio Tomorrow...

Eric will be broadcasting live from Salt Fork State Park from the Meet and Greet at the 21st-Annual Ohio Bigfoot Conference/Expo, beginning at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central. Plus, Scott Hackenslash will be dropping by to give his Movie News and Reviews. And as always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.
From today's offerings of maverick science: Scientists wondered about the underwater abilities of spiders. So, in an experiment reminiscent of the old parlor trick of drowning and reviving a fly, scientists drowned some spiders and watched them come back to life. Meanwhile, there's a report indicating scientists know the age of our closest star, seen in Dust Older Than the Sun Found in Earth's Atmosphere. Elsewhere, at TPOD, Stephen Smith points out some interesting characteristics presented by a Hubble Space Telescope image of The Sombrero Galaxy. Are we looking at a heavenly representation of Michael Faraday's homopolar motor?

The Fairy Thief of the Wilderness The Paranormal Pastor
Pastor Robin Swope, a former missionary himself, relates a tale told by an American missionary who served with her husband in the jungles of northern Thailand. With the caveat offered by the good pastor, "Sometimes odd things happen when you are hundreds of miles away from civilization", here is Mrs. Johnson's tale of the Naang Maai Paa, "the little fairy of the wild forest." Compare Mrs. Johnson's tale to the report Nick Redfern leads us to through his Man-Beast U.K. blog, Police Launch Hunt for 'Wolfman' Behind Mini Crimewave Who Lives on Rabbits and Berries in Woods.

A review of the press releases of two books, Michael McLeod's Anatomy of a Beast: Obsession and Myth on the trail of Bigfoot and Buhs' Bigfoot: The Life and Times of a Legend, takes on the premise put forth by both authors that indicates the Bigfoot phenomenon is the product of something other than true observation. Meanwhile, at Cryptozoology Online, guest blogger Neil Arnold reports on a Rhode Island case in which fishermen dredged up The Block Ness Monster; and Jon Downes handles the duties in presenting the 26-minute video of the May, 2009, Centre for Fortean Zoology production of On the Track of Unknown Animals.

Leaving Tomorrow Night...

I will be getting on a bus here in Cleveland (MS) then heading for Old Washington, Ohio. I am hoping to catch a bus at 9:30 Central time and arriving in Old Washington at 10:45 A.M. Friday or thereabouts. Thanks to Don Keating, I have transportation from Old Washington to Salt Fork. I will be blogging tomorrow, but it might be spotty as far as how much blogging I will be doing during the weekend or early next week. If I can, I will do some blogging, but if not, then I will be back sometime Tuesday. So, I will see you all probably next week sometime.

Review: The Sasquatch Triangle/Monsterquest 4-29-09

The ST was great, with kind of an open-mic atmosphere as Don welcomed several callers, including Josh from Southwestern Ohio, Eric Altman and myself, but also got some prank callers who tried to ruin the flow of the show, but were unsuccessful. Don was essentially plugging the Conference and giving last-minute dissertations on the Conference. Dunno what Don has planned for next week (probably a recap of the Conference) but it begins at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central. And as always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.

On Monsterquest, the main focus was what is known as "water apes", Sasquatch on Vancouver Island, which examines the possibility of these creatures swimming from Vancouver Island to the mainland of British Columbia. Several well-known Sasquatch personalities are featured on this episode, such as Dr. John Bindernagel, who lives on the island who gives his assessments of the sightings and the history. Thomas Steenburg and Richard Noll team up to search for evidence on the island. A wildlife biologist talks about his skeptical bent on whether or not such creatures could survive on the island; he also shows a rather interesting video of bears swimming in the Pacific from the island to the mainland, as well as showing apes swimming such as orangutans and monkeys, which somewhat negates the old myth that apes can't swim. Bindernagel is joined by a forensic podiatrist from the U.S. who examines his track casts and is rather open-minded about the possibility of them being from an unknown primate. Noll and Steenburg use different methods to attract some Sasquatch to in front of cameras, such as using fresh clams which the Sasquatch is known to eat. There is also a sighting recounted from 1901 in which a man was going to shoot a Sasquatch which was drinking from a stream because he thought it to be a bear, but when it stood upright, he changed his mind. Several encounters are recounted and witnesses interviewed, more methods of attracting Sasquatch are employed and the results are...well, I won't spoil it for you. A really good episode, I would give it a 4 1/2 out of 5 stars. Next week is a sequel to a Season 1 episode, titled Gigantic Killer Fish II, beginning at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central on History. Check local listings for time and channel.

Episode 52: Bigfoot Discovery Museum Show
In the maverick science corner: Comparative mythologist Rens Van der Sluijs notes the similarity between the enormous "space tornadoes" detected by the five THEMIS satellites and what primitive man witnessed, often referred to as the "axis mundi," a column of twisting, morphing light connecting the Earth to the heavens. Elsewhere, Stephen Smith reports on observations made by the Cassini space probe of immense hurricanes visiting their fury through the atmosphere of an enigmatic gas giant in Saturn's Raging Storms. Are the Saturnian hurricanes an electrical phenomenon?
The recent release of images purporting to be a strange creature filmed in Qatar sparked Loren Coleman's search for the truth. Here Coleman reveals the origins of those images and presents another Qatar photographic mystery from the past. With multiple images. Meanwhile, Cryptozoology Online is offering video from the Centre for Fortean Zoology Australian chapter, entitled The Radium Hill Tiger. Elsewhere, The Blogsquatcher is seeking information about about some footage in Video: Bigfoot in Colorado.

MonsterQuest : Mysterious Ape Island Airs on Wednesday April 29 09:00 PM EST/8:00 Central on History.

In the Pacific Northwest, a small island may hold the clue to unravelling the mystery of the legendary Sasquatch. Vancouver Island is a densely forested land mass located about 70 miles northwest of Seattle, Washington. The island is separated from Canada's mainland by water and is a popular destination for hikers, hunters and possibly something frightening and mysterious. Natives told tales to their children of an ape-like beast to be feared that would steal them should they venture into the forest. More than just stories of a bogeyman, recent witnesses tell equally terrifying stories of a monster that attacks as they sleep and is seen devouring fish on the coastline. Now our expedition team follows up these reports, launches their own hunt and finds that recent scientific discoveries of swimming apes could lead them to their most astounding discovery yet. Check local listings for time and channel.

Review: Bigfoot Quest 4-28-09

This was a pretty intense and interesting show, with guest Doug Bilby (Bulletmaker) who discussed his research and his alleged encounters which he claims to have had multiple ones of on his property in Oklahoma. He discussed a good bit about his alleged encounters and his alleged interaction with Sasquatch creatures. Smiter called in and discussed his alleged encounters and also got into a bit of a spirited discussion with Doug and the hosts of the show. Dunno what Bob and Mike have planned for next week, but it begins at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central. And as always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.
Jason Offutt, author of Darkness Walks: The Shadow People Among Us, relates the experiences of Tammy Helton during a ghost hunting expedition to a Porterville, CA, cemetery. Did Helton and her companions have a run-in with a shadow person? Meanwhile, another California location proves paranormally active for Paul Dale Roberts and a team of intrepid ghost hunters, as explained with text and photos in A Haunting in San Mateo. Includes video of "A Haunting in Arnold" investigation. Elsewhere, Bruce Duensing takes on the theory that ghosts can be intelligent while lacking consciousness in The Non Sentient Intelligence of Ghosts.
In October of 2003, the town of Decatur in Benton County, Arkansas, began to see Bigfoot. At least many citizens thought it was Bigfoot. Did Bigfoot visit Decatur in the Fall of 2003, or was a baboon on the loose? Cryptomundo has some interesting background on the town in Decatur's Bigfoot and Kin. Meanwhile, the pairing of two phenomena draws the attention of The Blogsquatcher in Bigfoot and UFOs: Pennsylvania 1973-74. Elsewhere, back at Cryptomundo, Loren Coleman thinks forewarned is forearmed and makes sure you know about the latest antics of the crew who gave us last summer's "Georgia Bigfoot Hoax," posting the particulars in the appropriately titled The Jerks Are Back! And on an entirely different note, Cryptozoology Online offers guest blogger Richard Freeman's review of a classic book of a cryptozoological nature in Strange Snakes and Freaky Fauna from Charles Owen's An Essay Towards a Natural History of Serpents (1742) Part Five Dragons.
