Monsterquest Tomorrow...

Are dangerous ocean predators prowling American rivers? Few people realize that the bull shark can tolerate fresh water, swimming hundreds of miles upstream from the ocean. History suggests it has at times penetrated up the Mississippi River as far as Illinois. The episode will examine the behavior of the bull shark and dive in the St. Lawrence Seaway to uncover another giant, the Greenland Shark. It can grow longer than the Great White and has been known to head inland and eat land animals like caribou.

Review: Bigfoot Quest 10-28-08

This was a great show, with guest Tom Lancaster of Virginia, who discussed his research, his research with Billy Willard, geo-patterns in the sightings and also about patterns in the sightings. I called in and asked Tom about how footprint casting would be affected by a substrate, also referring to the dermal ridges. I also mentioned about the Thomas Steenburg incident where he was attacked by a grizzly bear in the '80's. There was quite a bit of talk on geothermal patterns, as well as infrasound. Dunno what Bob and Mike have planned for next week, but it begins at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central. And as always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.

Marc Miller is a psychologist and cryptozoologist in Ohio. After reading Loren Coleman’s book, Cryptozoology A to Z, he became interested in the Buru, a large, unknown lizard thought by some to have lived in the remote valleys of the Himalayas of Assam in the northeast corner of India. Coleman mentioned that the journalist, Ralph Izzard, among others, had led an expedition in 1948 in search of the Buru. After obtaining Izzard’s journal, Miller attempted to follow his exact expedition. The first in a five-part series. Elsewhere, Filming Migo, the monster of Lake Dakataua.

Review: Sasquatch Watch Radio 10-27-08

This was a great show, with guest Richard Noll, who discussed how he got into Sasquatch research, and also answered questions I asked him referring to the Skookum Cast and also footprints, and also about the work he did with Owen Caddy on the Patterson/Gimlin Movie. He also took questions from the chat, and also from a caller from the 209 area code who asked Rick if he had investigated reports in Marin County, California, and also from Dan from Florida who called in and asked Rick some questions. Next week, Billy and DB welcome Dr. Jeff Meldrum beginning at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central. And as always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.

Book Review: The Bigfoot Observer's Field Manual by Robert W. Morgan

Really good guide to your own personal encounter.

This short booklet (not really a book in its purest form) really puts field tips and little tricks of the trade in the reader's hands. Morgan gives some great field tips, as well as recommending what kind of gear to use in the field, and also to not pack too heavily or an individual will be tired and huffing and puffing in the field. There also are little practical field tips and anecdotes and stories which tell the reader what to do and what NOT to do in the field, which also applies to sighting a Forest Giant (as Morgan calls them) and what to do if an individual does see one and has an encounter. The book is chock-full of great information, not only on field tips, but also what to look for in sign of a Forest Giant in the area. I do recommend this one, if for nothing else, for the practical field tips Morgan gives us. 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.
About 50 miles north of New York City, a mother of three, her husband and her in-laws all saw the animal walk behind the swing set and disappear into the woods one late afternoon last month. It was a light brown color, not furry, "as high off the ground as a fawn" and heavier than a Labrador retriever, with a cat head and a very long tail. A mountain lion? Elsewhere, on Cryptomundo: In Search Of The Cibola and Three New Scorpion Species Discovered.

As Halloween bears down on us, Anthony North refers to one of the most mysterious and terrifying of all the monsters of lore, stating, "We actually know a great deal about them." Are there biological and cultural reasons for crediting supposedly wolflike activities to some humans?

Meet Patty Scott, the power behind the Ghostsamongus website. Scott, who describes herself as "a skeptical believer," spent the weekend investigating a Lakewood, WA, bed-and-breakfast known as Thornewood Castle where the Stephen King television mini-series "Rose Red" was filmed. What led Patty Scott to investigate the paranormal, and what's the truth about the haunting of Thornewood Castle?

Book Review: Bigfoot Encounters In New York and New England-Paul and Robert Bartholomew

Pretty good update of Monsters of the Northwoods

This book, clocking in at just over 145 pages, is a pretty worthy successor and update to an earlier book both authors co-wrote with Bill Brann and Bruce Hallenbeck in 1992. It covers sightings and reports in the Empire State, but also covers reports in New England States (Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and even all the way to Maine). The brother authors do look at the different theories as to the possible existence of the Sasquatch, even delving into alternate explanations (though they are quick to point out they do not necessarily believe those explanations). I would give this one 4 out of 5 stars, but it is still not quite as good as MOTN.

A follow-up investigation has solved the mystery of the photograph of an apparent unknown cat taken earlier in 2008, at a golf course at Snodland, a small town in the county of Kent, England. Also, a new DVD, Chasing Discovery: The Struggles of Cryptozoologists, profiles the men and women of cryptozoology, including Loren Coleman, Gary Mangiacopra, Jeff Meldrum, and others. Elsewhere, A Room 101 Interview with another cryptozoologist, Neil Arnold, the author of Monster! The A-Z of Zooform Phenomena.

Oct. 24, 1968. Patrick McCaslin and his B-52 crewmates were practicing maneuvers in the skies above Minot, N.D., when officials at the nearby Air Force base asked them if they could see anything unusual. "You’ll know it if you see it," they said. Recalls McCaslin: "I think one of the pilots said, ‘Are the missile crews seeing things again?’ ’’ Then they saw it, hovering just above the ground. Also, if you are in New Mexico this weekend, check out the Gallup’s UFO Film Festival: UFOs Cover up or uncovered.

Review: Beyond The Edge Radio 10-24-08

This was a great first hour (I will catch the second hour at my earliest convenience), celebrating the one-year anniversary of the show, with Eric Altman, Sean and Monica. I called in along with Bill, and we talked about various subjects, including that d*&ned Georgia Hoax (Bill and I debated over that), and also about Paranormal subjects and future guests. The talk also did get into a bit of rather adult humor, but still pretty funny. Dunno what is planned for next week, but it begins at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central. And as always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.

2008 has already seen two sightings, both at a considerable distance from the Pine Barrens, New Jersey area. The first was January in in Litchfield, Pennsylvania, where a farmer saw the creature in his barn. The second was in Rising Sun, Maryland on August 18th, where three people observed the creature flying past their car, landing in a field a short distance away.

A big bold look at the year's "best" ghost photos, with a Queen Mary ghost photo taking first place. And which book placed first in Haunted America Tours' list of The Ten Most Haunted Paranormal Books 2008? Answer: Otherworldly Affaires!

Now that cryptids worldwide are getting the documentary treatment, one that hasn't gotten the attention it deserves is the Honshū Wolf of Japan. And in Feeding The Mermaids, read about Loren Coleman's great adventure with mermaids and manatees at the new Homosassa Springs State Park in Florida. Also, Austin Cryptozoology Art Exhibit, and Lost Tapes: Preview of Sneak Preview. Will this TV show confuse reality with trickery?
