Review: Sasquatch Watch Radio 10-20-08
This was a great show, with Kentucky researcher Bart Nunnelly, who discussed his research and sighting of a Sasquatch in the Bluegrass State, as well as his research of the Dogman in the Land Between The Lakes area and the murder which occurred there which may or may not be connected to the Dogman (a family of four was found ripped apart, as if by an animal). The show actually began with a major announcement-Steve Kulls says that SquatchDetective.com will re-premiere on January 1st, 2009, and Squatch Detective Radio returns January 5th. I called in and asked about the Dogman and the murder, as well as the Beast of Seven Chutes photo. Bill asked about sightings and footprint finds of Sasquatch, and also about the Dogman in Kentucky. Bruce the Creature Seeker called in and asked about the murders as well, and what the difference was between the Dogman in Kentucky and in other areas of the U.S. There were a few other callers who asked mainly about the Dogman. Book Review: North America's Great Ape: The Sasquatch by John Bindernagel
This is a really excellent book, a scientific tome which does not bog down in scientific jargon. Bindernagel writes about the parallels between Sasquatch and Great Apes, including similarities in behaviors and food habits, as well as theories on behaviors and their reasonings. Bindernagel also includes detailed Appendixes on the different aspects of the parallels of the behaviors and food habits and comparisons with the Great Apes. There are several illustrations of sighting encounters, mostly drawn by the witnesses themselves, as well as photographs of footprints and areas of activity. This book may be over a decade old, but I highly recommend it, and Bindernagel is writing a sequel which will be coming out sometime late this year or sometime in 2009. Bindernagel writes in a comfortable style, without getting bogged down in scientific jargon. Get this one if you can. It is available at http://www.bigfootbiologist.org

The next few weeks on my show will be interesting, as next week, Bill and I (if he is not sick or busy) will be doing our First-Annual Open-Mic Halloween Special, where we ask our listeners to call in with their scariest stories (and Bill and I might have a scary story or two ourselves). On HBM's my guest was Thom Powell (The Locals: A Contemporary Investigation of The Bigfoot/Sasquatch Phenomenon), and we discussed several things, such as the Battle Mountain Case, the Skookum Cast, the case of Rocky Bounds, who was given advice by Thom on not being distracted by Sasquatches in back of you when there is one or two in front of you, and also how he saw one belly-crawling towards a fruit pile. He also discussed the Dora Bradley habituation case, as well as the camera operation he is part of. He also took questions from callers Steve Summar and Thomas Hughes. Editorial: Could Sasquatch Be Misidentified as Bear, and Vice-Versa?
Picture this: an average hunter or hiker, walking in the forest or on a mountain trail, just minding his/her own business. Suddenly, the hiker/hunter comes across something hunched over on all fours. It is black or dark-brown in color, and the witness immediately assumes it to be a bear, so the witness breaks out the bear mace. But, the witness gets the shock of his/her life when it stands up on two legs, looks at the witness with a more humanlike face and humanlike posture and walks off into the deeper forest. The witness is flabbergasted and is unsre of what to do next. The witness was prepared for a bear, but not for what could only be a Sasquatch or Bigfoot! This scenario is more common than most may realize. A witness assumes he/she saw a bear, but then the true nature of the creature in question becomes clear. Of course, bears are primarily quadraped walkers, only standing briefly on their hind legs to observe a landscape further, and almost certainly not being habitually bipedal, only being able to take a few short steps before reverting back to quadraped status. Many eyewitness reports of sightings from a good distance have been observed of a Sasquatch which was on all fours and was assumed to be a black or Grizzly bear, but then the individual witnessed stood up and walked on its two legs, bipedally, like humans. There is always the possibility that a witness thought he saw a Sasquatch, possibly under poor lighting or at a distance, but it turned out to be a bear. The reverse has also happened, where something assumed to be a bear turned out to be a Sasquatch. John Bindernagel, a retired wildlife biologist, has examined this possibility in his excellent book North America's Great Ape: The Sasquatch, but also included two sketches which showed a bear standing at front and side profile, and also another sketch of a Sasquatch in the same position, which is used almost as a field guide-type drawing to give people a clue as to the differences between an upright bear and a bipedal primate. It is also believed by some that low-flying helicopters and planes passing over a wilderness area may see a hunched-over creature which is assumed to be a bear, but may in fact be a Sasquatch, utilizing natural "camouflage" to fool witnesses. So, next time one is in the woods and sees what appears to be a hunched-over bear on all fours, may in fact be witnessing a Sasquatch.
