Review: Sasquatch Triangle 10-16-08
This was a pretty terrific show, with guest Larry Battson, who talked of his wildlife work, including supplying animals that he raises for the TV series Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom and Jim Fowler's Spirit of Adventure, as well as his meetings with John Green and Bob Titmus and his stories he has heard from both men, as well as some interesting anecdotes about both men. He also mentioned about some footprints he was impressed by which came from Washington State. I called in and asked Larry about whether he had heard of footprints or handprints with missing digits and broken bones. He said he was sure that that has to be the case. I also asked him about recent cougar sightings in of all places, Louisiana, and he said he was not surprised by that and seemed to indicate that the current "redistribution" of cougars actually means that they never left those areas. Blaster in the chat also called in and he and Don got into a bit of a row regarding some activity that occurred in Salt Fork last weekend. Next Thursday, Don is hoping to have a roundtable discussion with some of the participants from last weekend's occurrence at Salt Fork, such as Eric Altman and Mike Feltner, beginning at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central. Then, Craig Woolheater is holding his 7th Annual Texas Bigfoot Conference, sponsored by the Texas Bigfoot Research Conservancy, which features speakers Daryl Colyer, Henner Fahrenbach, Dana Holyfield, David Paulides, Robert Swain, Harvey Pratt, Alton Higgins and two special late additions-Kathy Strain and Dr. Jeff Meldrum, who is replacing an ailing Peter Byrne (who injured himself out on a Bigfoot research hunt). The event occurs on Saturday, with a dinner to meet the speakers Friday night, then the Conference begins at 10:00 A.M., with doors opening at Jefferson High School at 9:00 A.M. The dinner Saturday night will feature Dr. Meldrum speaking in place of Peter Byrne. Both events look pretty exciting, and I hope all who attend either event have a lot of fun.

Bio on Thom Powell
Born in Dayton Ohio, Thom Powell is a Jack-of-all-Trades. As well as chasing the illusive Bigfoot, he is a science teacher, naturalist and environmental educator. He keeps himself busy with many hobbies and interests including building his own log cabin. Thom also enjoys organic gardening, plants, and beekeeping. He is a kayak instructor, and a professional river guide. His experiences searching for Bigfoot have led him to helping the US Forest Service set up remote wildlife cameras in the Mt. Hood area.
Book Review: The Locals: A Contemporary Investigation of the Bigfoot/Sasquatch Phenomenon by Thom Powell
This book is absolutely fascinating, and is perhaps the first to profile the controversial idea of habituation. It also brings to light some interesting patterns which witnesses observe with their "local" Sasquatches, such as using tactics to distract witnesses who see a Sasquatch in front of them, but hear others behind them making all kinds of vocalizations; a belly-crawling creature which seems to fit with the Skookum Cast creature (the belly-crawling was towards a fruit pile); continued temporary abduction of children to play with them or just for comfort after the Sasquatch lose a young one and other patterns which seem to be quite interesting and in some cases controversial. The Skookum expedition is given its own chapter as well. I do recommend this book quite highly. I would give it about 4 1/2 stars.

Editorial: The Georgia Hoax: Should We Move On From It?
Back in August, the Georgia "body" situation unraveled and fell apart when the principals in question were exposed as hoaxers. Now, it was a major story for about a week, but it eventually went away-at least for most folks. But there are still a few who seem to continue to discuss it and bring it up. Well, the main reason these folks bring it up is because there seems to be a new development just about every month since the whole thing fell apart. There is a new auction on Ebay where the original costume and freezer are being offered, so it seems that this story will not go away, no matter how much we may want it to, so it is perhaps prudent for most of us to ignore it, but for those who want to continue to bring up the story in some circles, well, perhaps it is their way of dealing with it, almost a form of cathartic therapy. And it is not prudent to continue to tease these people in the chatrooms if they continue to bring it up and just let those people bring it up if that is how they deal with it. For the rest of us, yes, it is time to move on, and not continue to bring it up, but don't tease the others who choose to do so.

This was a pretty terrific show, just a call-in show, where Bob and Mike discussed some recent news stories, including some about Mike's research. I called in along with Bill Green, and asked Mike about what sort of sign he has found in the field, such as teepee structures and twisted trees. Bill talked about the recent developments with the Georgia hoax and the costume which is on sale on Ebay, along with the freezer which were used in the hoax. Bill also discussed a new upcoming documentary on the Wildman of Kentucky, coming next month on the 18th. Dunno what Bob and Mike have planned for next week, but it begins at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central.
