Review: Let's Talk Bigfoot 3-12-08

This was a great show, with guests Bob and Jim Zenor, who discussed quite a bit about their experiences and their field work and their theories on what our big hairy friends are, as well as their opinions on the P/G Movie and what it contains. They also took several questions from the chatroom, but no one called in. There was also discussion about what kind of crest "Patty" might have, and also theories as to what Sasquatch might be. Bob and Jim were discussing how Sasquatch could be one of the members of the genus Homo, such as Homo Habilis or Homo Erectus. Some really dascinating discussion. All in all, a great show. Next week, Kathy and Teresa will have Randy Harrington (driveroperator) beginning at 10:00 EST/9:00 Central at http://www.letstalkbigfoot.com Also, you can download all the episodes so far there, as well as subscribe on iTunes. Take a close look at this photo...

This is a photo from an eBay item of the Patterson/Gimlin Movie cast poured by Roger Patterson on the day of filming. Take a particular look at the white one on the left. You can see, underneath the big toe, a large lump or bump which I discussed a few weeks ago here on the blog. That is the bump I was talking about which may indeed be one of two things-either a casting artifact or a natural bump behind the big toe like we have on our feet. Take a look at it and tell me what you think.

Review: Bigfoot Quest 3-11-08

This was a pretty great show, with Bob and Mike basically holding an open-mic program after Todd Partain did not show up. Folks such as Bob's brother Charlie, John Cartwright and Dr. Wade C. called in and discussed things with Bob and Mike, and Mike discussed some new helmet cam set=ups he was contemplating buying and bullet cams. I called in along with Bill Green, and he asked Bob and Mike if they were familiar with some of the recent news items in the BF World, and they said they were. I talked to Mike about his cameras and his set-ups and also some of the different systems I had seen in use on various Bigfoot programs. Dr. Wade took up the majority of the last half-hour discussing a sideshow attraction he had seen which looked to be half-human half-chimpanzee, which led to a discussion of Oliver, the bipedal chimp. It was a great show despite no guest, and Mike and Bob have one of the best shows on the Internet. Dunno what the guys have in store for next week, but it should be a good one, beginning at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/Bigfoot_Quest You can download past shows there, as well as subscribe on iTunes. And as always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.

Review: Bigfoot Central 3-11-08

This was a rather interesting show, with Don Monroe interviewing movie producer Dick Robinson, who is called the original Grizzly Adams (he produced some of the Grizzly Adams movies in the '70's), and he has some rather interesting ideas about Bigfoot being a shape-shifter and actually leaving scents in his apartment and car. I will just say those are some rather-interesting ideas, and leave it at that. He also discussed his filming of animals and his links to animal trainers for some of his wildlife films and his experiences with them. As I said, a very interesting program. Dunno what is in store for next week, but M.K. should be back next week to probably most likely discuss the P/G Movie, beginning at 8:00 EST/7:00 Central at http://www.artistfirst.com And as always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.

Review: Ancient Mysteries: Bigfoot

4.0 out of 5 stars Great and fair assessment of the subject matter, December 25, 2007
This documentary, originally aired in 1994 on A&E, was very well-done and was very fair as to its assessments of the Bigfoot Mystery. Luminaries in the Bigfoot field such as the late Dr. Grover Krantz, Peter Byrne, Scott Herriott, Al Hodgson and Roderick Sprague are interviewed about their research and their opinions on the hunt for these elusive creatures. Byrne was running the Bigfoot Research Project at that time out of Parkdale, Oregon, and is shown in the field investigating a sighting. Dr. Krantz is shown in his lab at Washington State University with his footprint casts and his Gigantopithecus model based on the jawbone of the mystery primate. Herriott's video (along with Darryl Owen's) are both shown, as is the Patterson/Gimlin Movie, with narration from Gimlin. Skeptical scientist John Crane is also interviewed about his opinions on the subject. This version is slightly different from the original, with Leonard Nimoy (In Search Of...) as the narrator, and some clips are edited a little differently, but overall it is the same one seen in 1994. It ends in Willow Creek, California during the Bigfoot Daze celebration with different townspeople giving their assessments of the reality of the creature, as well as the cultural influences Bigfoot has had through the years. I do recommend this documentary for anyone's Cryptozoology collection.

Announcement from John Johnsen

John Johnsen of Grendel Films has announced through me that he is dropping his study of the infamous Gable Film. The film allegedly depicted a “dogman” creature attacking a camera man and was all over the internet. Johnsen even included the footage in his production, “Hunt the Dogman” released last year. But, after careful continuing study of the film, Johnsen has concluded that the film is likely nothing more than evidence in a dog attack lawsuit…hence the “Gable Case” that was scrawled on the original film box. Another person, who is unknown to him, had expressed the opinion the creature was a Chow dog. This, for same reason says Johnsen, stuck in his mind and led to a thorough reexamination of the film, which led to the conclusion.

Review: Squatch Detective Radio 3-10-08

This was a great show, with Bigfoot witness Tim Day of Illinois, who had a sighting in Wisconsin many years ago and gave a good description and interesting story. I called in and asked if he was familiar with the Beast Of Bray Road, which he was, and also if he had found any footprints, hair or fecal matter. He is only a witness, not a researcher, so he has not found any evidence in the field. He also got calls from Dave Houston and Janice Carter, and he wants to contact Janice and talk to her. There was a bit about Bigfoot politics, but not so much. Next week is when there will REALLY be a discussion of BF Politics, with Sean Forker, beginning at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/TheSquatchDetective You can also download past episodes and subscribe via iTunes there. Review: The Bigfoot Mystery 3-9-08

This was a great show, with guest TJ Biscardi and several callers, including Steve Kulls, Doug Bilby (Bullet Maker), Eric Altman and myself, and I asked TJ about hair and fecal matter found in the field by the Searching For Bigfoot group. TJ said they had, but that they were inconclusive. Darin, JC and TJ talked a good bit about the research and how we should research BIGFOOT, NOT researchers. It was a terrific show, and I enjoyed it. Darin is working on getting Beast of Bray Road researcher and author Linda Godfrey next week at 7:00 EST/6:00 Central at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/The_Bigfoot_Mystery You can also download past shows and subscribe on iTunes. Editorial: What a "Crappy" Topic

Another piece of possible Sasquatch evidence is fecal matter or droppings. Many samples that are found in the woods are usually identified as nothing more than common animals like bears or coyotes or even horses(!). But, occasionally, possible Sasquatch dung is identified as coming from an unknown creature. It is noted especially for its large size, much larger than common animals. Robert W. Morgan has described finding a large sample of possible 'Squatch crap once which filled a large container. He drove quite a distance to take it to Dr. Grover Krantz and says in a laughing manner that he had never driven so far to deliver a bunch of crap. I can't remember what came of the fecal matter or what the analysis on it was, but I do know that in some cases possible 'Squatch crap has been found with bits of animal bones and hair as well as vegetation, even strange parasites (one sample had parasites native only to Asia, which makes one wonder how parasites from Asia found their way to the U.S.). Of course, the analysis done on possible 'Squatch crap has not yielded any clues as to its origin or what made it, all it tells us is what the creature that did it ate. It would be great to be able to extract DNA from these fecal samples, but it has not been done so far, and I am not so sure if it will ever happen. Of course, again, the only thing that will satisfy scientists is a body or a piece of a body. Fecal matter won't do it, but it will perhaps help the process along. Should be an interesting conundrum for sure.

Editorial: A "Hairy" Situation

Strange pieces of evidence of possible Sasquatches are found in the forests and near homesteads all the time, but one of the most intriguing is hair samples which come back as unidentified primate when examined. DNA can be extracted from hair, but it all depends on what part of the hair is collected, and also if there is a corruption factor on the hair, such as contamination. Many such hair samples have been found in the forests and near homesteads, whether on active expeditions searching for the Sasquatch or found by chance, and a good majority of the time comes up as common known animals such as elk, bear, coyote or even common domesticated pets. Sometimes, it also comes up as synthetic fibers or even human hair. However, on occasion, a hair sample is found that defies analysis or comes up unknown primate, which as we all know North America has no primates currently living here (except possibly the Sasquatch). Sometimes, the hairs are found in conjunction with sightings or even footprint discoveries, which lends a bit more credibility to the sighting in question. Of course, it is highly recommended that the hairs are handled with the greatest of care and not touched by human hands because of the risk of contamination. The best way to handle a hair sample is to wear rubber gloves and also use tweezers. If no tweezers, take a brown paper bag (not plastic) and surround the hair with that and collect the hair in that manner. The reason for no plastic bags is because plastic does not breathe and can tend to not preserve the evidence as well. The thing is, as good as hair sample DNA could be, it still does not take the place of a body or substantial remains. We do need the physical evidence, unfortunately. But, the hair samples are interesting and potentially valuable.
