The End of Blobsquatchery? Cryptomundo
Photoshop and other software is often implemented to fake photos causing nothing but headaches for Forteans across the globe. Could its evil powers be turned for good and end the stream of blurry images that have been dubbed "blobsquatches"? Loren Coleman posts an eye-opening video covering Photoshop Image Deblurring Sneak from Adobe MAX 2011 that can tease detail from the foggiest photos. And such a tool would be indispensible throughtout the field of cryptozoology, where the cry for more definitive proof continues to echo, along with calls for better methods of research, such as the admonitions of Brian Regal in Yeti Hunters Must be More Scientific. Eric Niiler has some criticism for recent claims, as well, in New Bigfoot Sightings: Proof Still Lacking, and Jeremy Hance, while expressing his skepticism, still says there's a possibility something big, hairy and manlike is out there, saying If Camera Traps Don't Prove Existence of Bigfoot or Yeti Nothing Will. In other cryptid news, CFZ-Australia adds to recent accounts about the alleged sighting of an animal believed to be extinct, as reported in More on that Queensland Tiger..., and the Australian group also expands on coverage of out-of-place large feline reports in Australia with Panther Spotted in Lithgow, NSW.

Scientists in Siberia claim Bigfoot is real
Scientists Close in on Yeti The Sun
Many articles have been written about last week's Russian conference about the wild hominoids many believe prowl the world's most forbidding landscapes. Vince Soodin went with the scientists and other researchers from around the world and contributes this article with some new accounts of human/hominoid interaction. Among the accounts related to Soodin: Canadian researcher John Bindernagel says film will be released later this year that shows one of the creatures near an Ohio home. One of the most respected researchers in the quest to solve the Bigfoot conundrum in North America, related, of course, to the Yeti search in Europe and Asia, was a participant in the Russian conference and provides some comments through Loren Coleman, even taking time to address some skeptical scorn from Benjamin Radford of Skeptical Inquirer, as seen in From Russia, With Love: Dr. Meldrum Comments. Meanwhile, the folks at CFZ Australia have some footage from the recent Sumatra Expedition that went in search of a mysterious apelike creature, as seen in Hunt for the Orang Pendek 2011 - the Video! Elsewhere, Manuel Navarette has the details of a September 30, 2011, experience in the Windy City that leaves investigators asking if the event was A Possible Mothman Sighting in Chicago, Illinois?

Manitoba Bigfoot Encounter Frontiers of Zoology
Dale Drinnon reprints an article that originally appeared at Paranormal Studies & Investigations Canada, very carefully written by Robin Pyatt Bellamy after a lengthy interview with the protagonist of the story, Archie Motkaluk, a Canadian farmer who sat on his story of an hours-long close encounter with what he thought to be a female Bigfoot in the winter of 1960. Moktaluk came forward with his tale of the encounter after becoming angered by a researcher on television who claimed tales of the creature were all in the imagination of witnesses. Bellamy gives a detailed description of the area in which the sighting was made, details Moktaluk's description of the creature and concludes Archie Moktaluk is telling the truth. Drinnon adds just a few short comments to the narrative, noting he thinks what Moktaluk saw was a female of a species he calls "The American Almas," as opposed to the description of a similar creature from the Caucasus of Russia. Is this the most complete description of a wild manlike creature, perhaps a Sasquatch, you've ever seen? Elsewhere, those following the Russian Snowman Conference that concluded last Saturday will recall a photograph available in a report from a Russian news correspondent accompanying the Siberian cave visit by conference attendees that included a photo of some trees woven into a pattern some researchers think indicates the presence and handiwork of the alleged apelike hominoids believed by many to populate the world's most isolated wildernesses. Nick Redfern has a couple of North American examples of these supposed constructions in Bigfoot Tepees. And Redfern, author of Memoirs of a Monster Hunter and quite a few other titles, has an interesting comparison of two books, the aforementioned title and a new title from "Destination Truth" star Josh Gates, in Monster Memoirs vs Monster Memoirs. Be sure to check out the comments for some humorous remarks. Meanwhile, Neil Arnold addresses the legends of the Cyclops, including some not-so-long-ago reports of encounters with one-eyed monsters in Sleep With One Eye Open.

The Russian-led conference that addressed the presence of elusive manlike creatures in the world's wildest regions, concluded over the weekend in Kemerovo, Siberia, has come out with an announcement that could be the surprise event organizers had promised leading up to the meeting that brought researchers from around the world together. But not every cryptozoologist is onboard with the announcement out of Kemerovo claiming proof of the existence of the creature variously known as Yeti, Bigfoot, Yowie and a legion of other names, depending on the country in which they're reported. Loren Coleman, co-author with Patrick Huyghe of The Field Guide to Bigfoot and Other Mystery Primates, who also owns the world's only cryptozoology museum, the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, ME, explains why the surprise announcement may be counter-productive in Exaggerated Snowmen Claims Not Good for Cryptozoology.

Bigfoot: unfound and unfounded
Richard Freeman, Zoological Director of the Centre for Fortean Zoology, was part of the recently concluded Sumatra Expedition 2011. The expedition was in search of signs of a creature long reported to roam the tightly-packed jungles of Sumatra, the undiscovered ape known to the Sumatrans as the Orang Pendek. Freeman explains the mission of the group and what it found in this entry, and his previous reports of the venture can be found in On the Trail of the Orang Pendek, Sumatra's Mystery Ape and Orang Pendek Quest Begins in Sumatra. Elsewhere, one of the arms of England's Centre for Fortean Zoology, CFZ - Canada, is looking for cryptid accounts from a sparsely settled area of the country, listing some of the creatures already reported to creep, crawl, swim and fly through the region in Manitoba Monsters. Meanwhile, Dr. Karl Shuker has all you ever wanted to know about a supposedly legendary beast, with many illustrations, in An Uncommonness of Unicorns as Loren Coleman updates the efforts to relocate his vast "collection of mysterious-creature artifacts" in CZ Museum Move Merits Maine Media and offers multiple images along with another refutation of George Cuvier's "Rash Dictum" with New African Antelope Discovered. Also, another Texas Blue Dog runs afoul of a man with a gun, as reported in Could This be a Chupacabra? Homeowner Thinks Animal He Shot Dead is Mythical Creature, and a 1977 incident in Pennsylvania echoes tales of the legendary Jersey Devil in the remembrance of The Beast of Bowman Hill.

Yeti expedition an abomination
A conference of international researchers who study the existence of a reported population of scattered wild manlike creatures officially came to a close in Tashtogol, Siberia, yesterday. With few reports from the scene, we turn to Russian reporter Lida Vasilevskaya for her commentary as she accompanied the researchers into the Siberian wilderness to visit a cave the Siberian Yeti had supposedly been recently frequenting. While much of the report is tongue in cheek, Vasilevskaya does pass along the words of Dr. Jeff Meldrum of Idaho State University and provide some photos from the Siberian site. Another very good report from someone who was not on the scene and treats the conference as though it has yet to occur, nonetheless provides some excellent background on the accounts of wildmen in the region of Tashtogol cave and scientific reactions, as seen in They Leave Behind Large Footprints. Radio Free Europe also put together a report on the conference and its attendees, as well as the Kemerovo area of Siberia the researchers visited, as seen in Siberian Yeti Conference Seeks Out Elusive Hominid. The North American version of the Siberian hominid has driven lots of investigators to search for proof, and among them at least one has become notorious. The reasons for the notoriety and the latest plans of the Bigfoot hunter in question are the subject of Loren Coleman's posting of information in SF Examiner Spotlights Biscardi. Meanwhile, Nick Redfern has polled his readers about the elusive North American creature and came up with results he says are as "intriguing as the Bigfoot puzzle itself" as can be seen in his report Monstrous Statistics!

When Really Big Human Giants Left Their Imprints on the World The S8intcom Blogger
Those familiar with the Holy Bible revered by Christians the world over have probably read the references to giant humans in the Old Testament. During the Exodus, the Hebrews reported spying on "the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight." Chris Parker examines the evidence that there once lived humans far larger than even the giant Goliath who was slain by the shepherd boy David later in the Old Testament. Parker presents a series of archived newspaper reports and some images that purport to show human footprints up to 10 feet long. Meanwhile, Brent Swancer turns attention to mysterious sightings that followed the undersea earthquake and resultant tragic tidal wave in Japan, as well as similar sightings that accompanied other disastrous earth movements. Did these disasters stir up previously unknown large creatures that dwell in the upper atmosphere, often mistakenly taken for spaceships of alien beings, as Swancer speculates, with many images, in Tsunamis and Sky Beasts? Elsewhere, Dale Drinnon uses a magazine from six decades ago to point out some of the cryptid information making the rounds at the time in Another 1950s Cover Story. Also, Australia's ABC Radio has a report describing the sighting of the supposedly extinct Tasmanian Tiger, and the link to the report is included in the CFZ-Australia revelation of A Queensland Tiger Spotted Near Ipswich.

Bigfoot Experts Gather in Siberia to Hunt for Hominids
Episode 613: Greg Newkirk & Jason Gowin Mysterious Universe
Benjamin Grundy sits down with two of the new batch on the Fortean block, Greg Newkirk and Jason Gowin of Who Forted Blog, to talk about their foray into the world of esoteric subjects. The pair are also touting their new film "The Bigfoot Hunter" and you can watch the entertaining trailer for the film before either downloading the podcast or listening online. And the Who Forted Blog shows up, again, as the group's creators, Greg and Dana Newkirk, chat with fellow Fortean Tony Morill during an Interview With Some Forteans (No Garlic Required). There's also news about the man all Forteans look to for inspiration in their efforts to explain the anomalous and bizarre, as Robbie Graham releases information about an upcoming Hollywood production in Charles Fort: The Movie!
The meeting of researchers from around the world to consider evidence of the existence of manlike creatures in the planet's out-of-the-way places continues in Tashtagol, Siberia, and should run through the weekend. But, while the scientists continue to compare notes, there are those who don't think too highly of the effort, as can be seen in a blast thrown the way of the organizer of the conference and the news organizations which dared mention the Russian meeting, posted by human evolution specialist Darren Curnoe of Australia's University of New South Wales in Media Puts Its Bigfoot in It Yeti Again: It’s Abominable. And Southern Fried Scientist, a graduate student in North Carolina, adds his condemnation of the entire field that seeks unknown animals with I *Heart* Cryptozoology. Fortunately for the field of cryptozoology, Matthew J. Didier sits in at CFZ-Canada to provide a rebuttal to the naysayers, in general, as seen in Can You Satiate The Pseudo Sceptics?

Siberian Snowmen Storms Media: Update Cryptomundo
The much talked about conference on the existence of elusive hominoids in the world's wilderness areas brought together many notable scientists and researchers in Moscow, Russia, yesterday. The international conference is the brainchild of Professor Igor Burtsaev, one of the world's leading authorities on the subject of these elusive creatures. Professor Burtsaev's comments on the creatures, certain to raise many eyebrows, are included in this report assembled by Loren Coleman. Also included is the schedule of speakers during the first day of the meeting and the subject of each address. Attendees flew out of Moscow yesterday bound for Tashtagol in Siberia where they will visit locations the Siberian version of the creatures is reputed to live. The Director of the Centre for Fortean Zoology in England, Jonathan Downes gives some background on the creatures in the broadcast via BBC News with Scientists Set Off to Find the Abominable Snowman. Other news of such creatures can be found today in the archived tales assembled at Weird Australia in The Wild Hairy Man of the Blue Mountains, and Dale Drinnon offers an image of a female Bigfoot in an illustration that pre-dates the famous Patty film of Patterson and Gimlin in The WHOLE Picture This Time. Meanwhile, Loren Coleman has the latest on a frightening encounter with a supposedly out-of-place feline in Illinois Mountain Lion Attack and shows what has Municipality Authority of Westmoreland County in Pennsylvania all adither in Beaver Run Has An Alligator. Elsewhere, bizarre history collector and commentator Dr. Beachcombing offers some thoughts on the Little People of myth and legend in Fairy Gifts.

Lee Speigel has the latest on this week's planned meeting in Russia to bring together many scientific voices that have been speaking out about the suspected existence of an elusive hairy hominoid in the wild places of the world. A photo gallery of evidence is included, as well as words from International Cryptozoology Museum (ICM) owner Loren Coleman, who, with co-author Patrick Huyghe, penned the classic The Field Guide to Bigfoot and Other Mystery Primates. Coleman reveals that he was invited to attend the upcoming meeting but was not offered complementary travel arrangements and also has the move of the ICM to larger quarters to supervise. Also, Nick Redfern has the numbers from his just concluded survey about his readers' views of the mysterious manlike creatures in Bigfoot Poll Results and the beginning of a new poll seeking participants' views of the Loch Ness Monster. There's more, too, about colossal cryptids in Loch Ness and another Scotland lake in Previously Unknown Land Sighting of Nessie and Loch Awe Monster. Meanwhile, the thylacine may be extinct, but many residents of Australia don't think so, claiming to have glimpsed the furtive creature, as they all assert in Tasmanian Tiger Witnesses Speak Out... Nick Redfern knows his way around some of the most mysterious tracts of ground in the world, sites like Cannock Chase, Rendlesham Forest and Loch Ness in the British Isles and Texas' Big Thicket in the United States. The sheer magnitude of strange creatures and weird events attributed to such sites leads Redfern to join others interested in such "hot-spots" in wondering if "certain parts of our planet act as portals or 'doorways' to other realms of existence (extra-dimensions, in other words), through which all of these strange creatures come as the mood takes them." Does Earth harbor zones where strange events and weird encounters are the rule and not the exception? Elsewhere, Jim Miles focuses creature comments onto the ocean off the coast of Georgia and on the waters of the state's Savannah River with Weird Georgia: Sea Serpents 3. Meanwhile, Loren Coleman reports the sad news of the passing of an important figure in the recording of Bigfoot footage, as seen in Connecticut Cougar Maps.

A Miscellany of Orang Pendek Reports CFZ - Australia
On the heels of the mission mounted by the Centre for Fortean Zoology and dubbed "Sumatra Expedition 2011," which sought evidence of a long-reported apelike creature in the Sumatran jungles, the Australian contingent that participated in the quest has compiled a lengthy collection of archived reports about the creature known as Orang Pendek. With this much historical smoke, can there be no fire? A quest seeking another apelike creature is also in the news today as the efforts of two nurses who trekked into North Carolina's Uwharrie Forest are revealed in Bigfoot Does Exist...Or Does He? While the effort of these two women was not fruitful, the report includes video footage of Mike Green's arguably much more successful ventures into the Uwharrie. Green has night vision images of what he believes is a Bigfoot helping itself to candy he used to bait the creature into range of his cameras. And Loren Coleman has news about his own "landmark" item from the International Cryptozoology Museum in Bigfoot to Move Soon. Elsewhere, for those not familiar with the cryptid strangeness said to swim through the lakes of the world, Matt Hickman has a brief synopsis in Nessie's Gang: 5 Celebrity Lake Monsters.

Little People of Sumatra Frontiers of Zoology
Dale Drinnon reveals he had asked Richard Freeman of the Centre for Fortean Zoology Sumatra Expedition 2011 to inquire among the Sumatrans about the "tiny people of Sumatra" while Freeman and his companions were seeking the apelike Orang Pendek. Freeman responds with a description of the Sumatran little people that shows they are not to be confused with the Orang Pendek. The reason for Drinnon's request becomes apparent as he explores the possibilities of diminutive human relatives in the vicinity of Sumatra, offering scientific papers and illustrations on the subject. Was Homo floresiensis, the so-called "Hobbit" of news articles that followed discoveries on the Indonesian Island of Flores, more widespread than previously thought? Are any such tiny people still living in the island jungles? Consider also the 1958 newspaper clipping gathered by CFZ-Australia that could indicate an Orang Pendek was captured in Sumatra, as seen in Orang Pendek Trail Heats Up. Elsewhere, Craig Woolheater presents a Twitter posting by William Jevning, author of Notes from the Field, Tracking North America's Bigfoot, in which Jevning releases an anecdote that could lead to the question of whether there is a US Forest Service Coverup of Bigfoot?. And Loren Coleman laments a segment of the reportorial art that peppered the newspapers of the century before last, as seen in Flying Snakes, Horned Gazookas and 19th Century Journalism.

New Hampshire Wood Devils Phantoms and Monsters
What's seven feet tall, covered in dark hair with a slender bearing that puts Jack Skellington to shame? According to claims by woodsmen, lurking in the forests at the foot of the White Mountains of New Hampshire and through the Appalachians, too, are tall, thin, vaguely humanoid, hairy, very fast creatures know as "Wood Devils" that produce a very piercing scream when encountered. With accounts stretching back into the Colonial Era, the creature is associated by some cryptozoologists with Bigfoot. The Texas Bigfoot Research Conservancy is getting set for an annual get together to compare notes and discuss North America's best known cryptid's presence in the Lone Star State, leading Suzanne Loudamy to announce plans for the meeting and review some evidence in Bigfoot: Fact or Folklore? And an upcoming episode of a popular television series seeks answers to the Bigfoot riddle through a two-hour Halloween special titled "Birth of a Legend," to be aired Sunday, October 30, 2011, at 9:00 p.m. ET, as outlined in Animal Planet's "Finding Bigfoot" Returns to the Woods to Investigate Sasquatch's Origin in Halloween Special. Meanwhile, the search for a comparable creature in Sumatra has ended, and Centre for Fortean Zoology - Australia took part in the venture, leading to the report We're Back from the Jungle! Elsewhere, a special cat is celebrated by Dr. Karl Shuker in Sonic the Hedgehog and the Janus Cats, and the record setting kitty is gets some love from the media, too, in Two-faced Cat Earns Guinness Record.

While there may be some wondering whether the footage is computer generated imaging, a very real possibility, watch it to see a strange activity involving a dragonfly, some unidentifiable wispy looking creature, and what may be a parasite sticking its head from between the dragonfly's huge eyes. Meanwhile, Nick Redfern introduces us to tales of winged weirdness in Fantastic Flying Folk! then updates us on a soon to be held event in Pennsylvania that will feature several nationally known speakers, with Saucers & Sasquatch. Elsewhere, Loren Coleman reveals rumors sparked by a supposed glitch in the DNA of that cougar killed in the Nutmeg State not long ago, and wonders what will finally come from the reports of researchers who may be asking Did Connecticut Cougar Not Really Walk from South Dakota?

Portland's International Cryptozoology Museum to get a bigger home
Two pretty big stories mark today's news from the field of cryptozoology. Starting off, expert analysis from Darren Naish, Michael Woodley and Cameron McCormick, part of the trio's efforts to introduce their scientific "analyses of cryptozoological data into the technical, peer-reviewed literature," has progressed at least as far as the latest issue of Scientific American. And the trio make a considerable splash in the sea of marine mysteries presented by a famous 1968 encounter detailed by Captain William Hagelund that had been pegged by some as a "baby Cadborosaurus." So what does the trio think Hagelund and his crew really spotted in the briny waves? And just as one cryptid is supposedly marked off the list of mystery beasts, along comes anthropologist and cryptozoology researcher Dale Drinnon with a compendium of his own writings, a huge selection of images and the scintillating claim Chupacabras SOLVED! Could Drinnon be right?

If you must read only a few things today, please select from the following:
From the Archives: Australia Has Its Yowie CFZ Australia
A newspaper article from the 1970s depicts the aboriginal legends of Australia's version of Bigfoot, the Yeti, the Almasty, the Orang Pendek and other hairy, manlike forest denizens. Roland Robinson was the reporter who gathered the 1970s era information concerning the Australian cryptid, and included in his report is the unsubstantiated claim that 40 skeletons found in 1975 in northern Victoria were "almost identical in facial features to Java Man." Were these the skeletons of Yowies? And where are these bones now? Meanwhile, there's a short bit of news from the 2011 Centre for Fortean Zoology (CFZ) Sumatra Expedition, carried at Cryptomundo as Initial Orang Pendek Expedition 2011 Report and another short report that includes a photo of one piece of evidence the team has brought back in the effort to verify the creature's existence, carried at the official CFZ website as The First Photograph of the Cast Taken in Sumatra. As the evidence from the expedition is being sorted, Oll Lewis revisits the most "ground-breaking discovery in human evolutionary history in the lifetimes of most people alive today" that occurred in the same general region as the Sumatran expedition, as noted in There and Back Again. Elsewhere, Loren Coleman congratulates Point Pleasant, WV, following the city's annual celebration, held recently, and points out his own 2002 prediction of the festival's success in Mothman Sightings Continue and Cryptotourism Soars.
