Seriously Flawed Still on the Track
A not-so-nice review of a recent book comes from Jon Downes, who reviews Killers on the Moor by Mike Freebury. Though he likes the book and agrees with many of its conclusions, Downes cites some "unforgivable mistakes" made by Freebury, which leads him to wonder: "what the bloody hell was he thinking when he was researching it?" On a brighter note, Nick Redfern reviews I Fort The Lore by fellow Englishman Paul Screeton and finds Screeton's takes on Cryptozoology, UFOs, rock music, urban myths, and the media a real treat. And Paul Dale Roberts reviews the Second Edition of The Werewolf Book: The Encyclopedia of Shape-Shifting Beings by Brad Steiger, whom he calls "the 'Dylan Dog' of sleuthing into all aspects of the paranormal." Roberts states that the book is simply "incredible."

The Michigan Dogman Wanders...Again Phantoms & Monsters
Details of an encounter with what was described as a wolfman on August 5th in Baraga County, Upper Peninsula, Michigan. "It was on all fours and had back legs like those of a large man. It had jet black fur and looked like a very large wolf other than the back legs and the human-like rump. There was no tail. The profile of the head and snout were that of a wolf." A similar creature was seen by two people in nearby Tioga, Baraga County in the Autumn of 2008. Elsewhere, in Hillstranded, Caddy and Snooki Triumphant! a journalist reviews the new TV show that featured what was promoted as being unmistakeable evidence of the existence of “Caddy,” a 40-to-60-foot long sea serpent often sighted off the British Columbia coast. The conclusion? "The Hillstrand brothers probably did more damage to the careful, budding science of cryptozoology in that one-hour show than a decades worth of painstaking research into the real, grandiloquent wonders of the world." Georgia Bigfoot Hoaxers At It Again
The unusual white creature found dead in the road in Alexandria, Minnesota, has been examined by Minnesota's Department of Natural Resources and identified as a badger. The giveaway was the animal's front feet which have five long claws just like a badger; the white coloring was the result of decomposition. Also identified, this time by officials at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Alaska Fisheries Service Center, is another recent mystery: Mysterious Orange ‘Goo’ in Alaska is Egg Mass From Unknown Species.
A travel piece about the two-room Bigfoot Discovery Museum in Felton, California, that's run by Michael Rugg, who has been building this collection of all things Bigfoot since his own Bigfoot encounter as a child. In 2004, he decided to turn a life-long hobby into a career, displaying his books, images, and memorabilia for the public. Elsewhere, in Bigfoot Spotted Here, we have a profile of Ohio Bigfoot investigator Marc DeWerth, who had his own Bigfoot sighting in Ohio in 1997 while hunting for badger dens. And finally a Follow Up on a Recent Nessie Sighting by the Hargreaves of Foyers, which concludes: "what the Hargreaves saw back in June was no optical illusion or misperception but a genuine sight[ing] of the Loch Ness Monster."

Bob Rickard, the publisher of the now defunct publishing venture Fortean Tomes, replies to an earlier critique by Loren Coleman and Jerry Clark of Michel Meurger and Claude Gagnon's Lake Monster Traditions. Unlike Coleman and Clark, he does not see it as a pretentious debunking book and goes on to explain how the English edition differs from the original French. And he explains the book's folkloric interpretation of lake monsters: "For Meurger," writes Rickard, "the witness’ imaginative state, at the moment of witnessing or of being startled, was of critical interest, for it was in that moment that perceptions and interpretations of them would be largely shaped by cultural and received imagery." Since we know that ALL GOOD THINGS must come to an end.....BF&BREW is one of those things. So without going into how and why that is happening now, just after I updated you less then 24 hrs ago...it would be best to go the website and read it for yourself.
I am not the type that likes to sling mud or point fingers. Really, this is something that will free me up for bigger things through my LLC Frame352 Prod.
The OSS is also going nighty night. We had over the last 2 years over 18 speakers give lectures on the phenomena and point to vast different areas of interest. I am satisfied with how things have gone with the OSS and feel as thought my time can be better served on a new and wider platform.
If you would like to follow up on the meeting at the Brewers Union Local 180 on wed. I will still be there along with other friends at 6:30 p.m.
This is the end of a very short era.

News video shows what was found on a Minnesota highway last week, apparently the victim of sudden impact with someone's car, truck or van. Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has been unable to identify the nearly hairless creature so far, and witness opinions have ranged from a badger with mange to a skunk. Meanwhile, a creature that has never been found on the roadside dead is the centerpiece of a remembrance of farmer Hans J. Mobius' snapshots of a "furry black monster standing next to (his) John Deere Gator" in a pasture on his Clarence, NY, farm, five years ago, as recalled in Monster Mania, with images. Elsewhere, an Illinois newspaper writer laments his town's lack of a cryptid drawing card and offers up the suggestion of the "Panther Creek Possum, a marsupial 6 to 7 feet tall, rumored to live in the deep ravines of (a) state fish and wildlife area" as a Photoshopped candidate in Springfield Needs a Monster. Also, the last Tasmanian Tiger known to have been alive has made his way onto a commemorative coin, as shown in Thylacine Coin Inspired by Benjamin Footage.
