Review: The Sasquatch Triangle/Monsterquest 4-29-09
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Monsterquest, the main focus was what is known as "water apes", Sasquatch on Vancouver Island, which examines the possibility of these creatures swimming from Vancouver Island to the mainland of British Columbia. Several well-known Sasquatch personalities are featured on this episode, such as Dr. John Bindernagel, who lives on the island who gives his assessments of the sightings and the history. Thomas Steenburg and Richard Noll team up to search for evidence on the island. A wildlife biologist talks about his skeptical bent on whether or not such creatures could survive on the island; he also shows a rather interesting video of bears swimming in the Pacific from the island to the mainland, as well as showing apes swimming such as orangutans and monkeys, which somewhat negates the old myth that apes can't swim. Bindernagel is joined by a forensic podiatrist from the U.S. who examines his track casts and is rather open-minded about the possibility of them being from an unknown primate. Noll and Steenburg use different methods to attract some Sasquatch to in front of cameras, such as using fresh clams which the Sasquatch is known to eat. There is also a sighting recounted from 1901 in which a man was going to shoot a Sasquatch which was drinking from a stream because he thought it to be a bear, but when it stood upright, he changed his mind. Several encounters are recounted and witnesses interviewed, more methods of attracting Sasquatch are employed and the results are...well, I won't spoil it for you. A really good episode, I would give it a 4 1/2 out of 5 stars. Next week is a sequel to a Season 1 episode, titled Gigantic Killer Fish II, beginning at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central on History. MonsterQuest : Mysterious Ape Island Airs on Wednesday April 29 09:00 PM EST/8:00 Central on History.
In the Pacific Northwest, a small island may hold the clue to unravelling the mystery of the legendary Sasquatch. Vancouver Island is a densely forested land mass located about 70 miles northwest of Seattle, Washington. The island is separated from Canada's mainland by water and is a popular destination for hikers, hunters and possibly something frightening and mysterious. Natives told tales to their children of an ape-like beast to be feared that would steal them should they venture into the forest. More than just stories of a bogeyman, recent witnesses tell equally terrifying stories of a monster that attacks as they sleep and is seen devouring fish on the coastline. Now our expedition team follows up these reports, launches their own hunt and finds that recent scientific discoveries of swimming apes could lead them to their most astounding discovery yet. Check local listings for time and channel.

The ten webisodes for G. I. Joe: Resolute plus the ending!!!
G.I. Joe: Resolute Part 1 (of 10)
Review: G. I. Joe: Resolute
This originally premiered on line as a series of webisodes, and it really is a great series which shows a different G. I. Joe then we have seen previously in animation. It premiered on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim last night. The story centers around the G. I. Joe team, led by Duke, battling the evil forces of Cobra, but there is a twist to this show-people actually die, and real bullets are shot from real guns. Snake-Eyes, the popular G. I. Joe commando/Ninja actually slices Cobra troopers like confetti, and people do actually get hit with bullets. It begins with a certain member of Cobra personnel who is found dead inside the Washington Memorial in the Nation's Capital, stabbed and gutted by the evil Cobra Commander, who has a particle weapon which he uses to level Moscow as a demonstration of what will happen if the world is not turned over to him within 24 hours. The team mobilizes, with Snake-Eyes going to Japan and confronting his old fellow Martial-Arts student and former best friend Cobra Ninja Storm Shadow, and Duke and Scarlett going to Siberia to attempt to shut down the particle weapon. Another strike team goes to another location (Roadblock, Gung-Ho, Beach Head and Stalker), where they confront Destro and the Baroness to free some hostages. I will not give away too much more, but I really enjoyed this show, very well-done. It was more adult, with some strong language and some violence, prompting a TV-14 rating, and it is not really for kids under the age of 13. But us children of the '80's really appreciate this terrific show. Hope this turns into a regular series and not just a one-off. I give this a 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.
