Tasmanian Tigers Brought to Life Australian Geographic
In one we missed eight days ago, Amy Middleton writes of the new exhibit of thylacine artifacts from the "largest private collection of Tasmanian tiger relics" at the Wilderness Gallery at Tasmania's Cradle Mountain. Middleton explains how more than just thylacine predation on Australia's sheep ranches served to wipe out the creature she characterizes as "Feared in life, loved in death." As it happens, Australian mineral prospectors also feared the thylacines, saying the animals stole food, a serious problem in the wilderness, and there were instances in which prospectors and others believed the animals were stalking them. With photos. Elsewhere, Dr. Karl Shuker remembers a little hybrid that was not supposed to be conceived. The story of this baby elephant, born thirty years ago in the Chester Zoo and all but ignored by the media and scientific journals during his short life, is told, with photos, in The Elephant of Surprise - Remembering Motty. Meanwhile, Loren Coleman has a report from the news archives that reflects on information included in The Field Guide to Bigfoot and Other Mystery Primates that he co-authored with Patrick Huyghe in 2006, as detailed in Maine 1895: Hairy Wild Man Kills Lumbermen. Also, Dale Drinnon revisits an archaeological situation that has been causing some problems for those who believe a New World Ape fossil was discovered in 10M-year-old strata of Nebraska. Teeth from the Nebraska deposits were originally identified as coming from a fossil ape, but the identification from the American Museum of Natural History was later changed when teeth from an extinct pig were found near the original teeth, as explained in"Hesperopithecus Again.

North America's Lake Monsters Discovery News
The recent photographs from Lake Windermere in England, showing what is believed by many to be an anomalous creature given the name "Bownessie,"leads the managing director of Skeptical Enquirer to write this piece about the monsters purported to be in a number of lakes in North America. But in the end, Benjamin Radford calls on cryptozoologist, author and Director of the International Cryptozoology Museum Loren Coleman to comment on the Lake Windermere photograph and the two people who claimed the recent sighting and photographed the "creature." Stated Coleman, "I'm not saying they are not to be taken seriously, but UK investigators should do some background checks."
