Review: The Legacy of Boggy Creek (2011)
Really awful, in all aspects
This unfortunate excuse of a movie,clocking in at just over 68 minutes, purports to tell the continuing story of the Fouke Monster since 1972, extending into midwestern states like Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri and Iowa. It tells several fictional tales, mostly of aggression from the creature and some people being killed or injured, with one of the worst suits I have ever seen. I can't decide if this is supposed to be parody or what, but it is pretty bad. On my famous scale of 1-10, this one gets a 1 1/2, and that is only because I am feeling generous.
Review: Half-Human (Japanese Version, 1955)
Really good, and inspired Loren Coleman's lifelong quest for answers in Cryptozoology
This movie, made by the same studio that brought us Godzilla and completely in Japanese with no English Subtitles, is really a good story which is fairly easy to follow. It follows a group of Japanese adventurers in what is presumably the Himalayas where they go skiing, but get involved with what appear to be a series of unusual attacks by a large creature. They eventually encounter this being, a large Yeti, which has an offspring as well. There is also a village with a group of people who are all engaging in inbreeding and have a violent patriarch who apparently likes to beat women. Not exactly family fun and enterainment, but it is not too bad a movie other than that aspect. The villagers and the adventurers run across the two Yetis and chaos ensues. I will not give away too much more, but it is actually a very interesting movie, if a bit on the strange side. Pretty good suit too for 1955. I give this one an 8 1/2 out of 10.

This movie stars Home Improvement Oldest Kid Zachary Ty Bryan as Cody, a young man who seems to like adventure and getting into trouble; David Rasche (Sledgehammer!) as a rich industrialist who wants a dead Bigfoot at all costs to put on display; Matt McCoy (The Hand That Rocks The Cradle, Abominable, Seinfeld) as a Park Ranger determined to do his job and do it well, as well as trying to protect the Bigfoot; Crystal Chappell (Days of Our Lives) as a professor wanting to put her name in the history books with a Bigfoot capture and Rance Howard (Sasquatch Mountain, The Andy Griffith Show) as a local determined to help out the Ranger with anything needed to help out the Bigfoot. The Bigfoot costume in this is pretty good, and is the one used on some of the recreations on Finding Bigfoot. The basic story is a professor and a rich industrialist each have plans for the capture of a Sasquatch, and the young man runs across the creature after it saves his life from a bear trap and a hungry grizzly. After a member of a hunting party goes missing, the rangers search for him and for Cody, and find...well, I will not spoil it for you. I enjoyed this movie, but the plot was a bit thin. About a 7 out of 10.

Pretty good, great star power by two of the actors
This was a Disney TV-Movie made for the younger set, but benefits from great performances from Colleen Dewhurst (Murphy Brown) as anthropologist Gladys Samco and Joseph Maher (Sister Act) as unscrupulous hunter Jack Kendrick, out to bag a Sasquatch (Gladys believes in protecting them). A young pre-Full House Candace Cameron (Bure) co-stars as a young girl named Samantha, paired up with her future stepbrother Kevin who run into two "Sasquattle", a male and female, who help the injured girl and then take the kids as their own because their own child was apparently killed. As Kendrick attempts to capture a Bigfoot, Gladys, with the help of Samantha and Kevin's parents, attempt to protect the two Sasquatches and keep the kids safe at the same time. The suits for 1987 were really good too, although much more like a caveman than anything else. I would give this one a 9 out of 10. I really did enjoy this one, considering I had not seen it in over 25 years.

With Rick Dyer's newest laughable venture into the world of Bigfoot hunting, this question has come up once again and with good reason. Although, Dyer's "Bigfoot body" that he claimed he shot and killed is clearly a hoax, there are other cases like that of Justin Smeja that are in more of a grey area. Since there is a distinct possibility Smeja is telling the truth about the two Bigfoot he shot in California in 2010 (in the ironically named Sierra Kills case), the debate becomes whether or not Bigfoot should be considered human or at the very least a protected species. With increasing numbers of would-be Bigfoot hunters strolling into the forest looking for the big guy, the chances increase that incidents like the Sierra Kills case will likely occur again and we predict that this is going to become a hot-button issue in years to come, not just in the cryptozoology world but in mainstream media...There weren't any Bigfoot hunters with itchy trigger fingers roaming the forests millions of years ago, so what killed off Gigantopithecus? A new theory poses an interesting possibilty: did cavities kill earth's largest ever ape as his primary diet of bamboo was changed drastically as the bamboo died out and he had to turn to sugary fruits? And finally, the Dogman of Kentucky once again raises his furry head, this time in the form of a "better late than never" sketch drawn 9 years after an encounter with the terrifying creature. The witness remembers the sighting clearly and provides a nicely detailed Bullit County beast sketch,illustrating the dogman that allegedly stalked the witness' home and family for months afterward.

10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty: Close But No Cigar Paranormal People Online
Martin J. Clemens shares his view on Spike TV's newest venture into the realm of Forteana with the clumsily titled show, 10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty. The show is an uneven mix between scientific research and reality show dramatics with the focus more on reality show tropes like housing the contestants in one cabin to stir up unneccesary disagreements. As with all reality show competitions, there are a few unsavory characters that play their so-called evilness up for the cameras, but in this case that role goes immediately to the infamous Justin Smeja, the hunter who claims to have shot and killed two Bigfoot including a juvenile. Like Clemens, we find his presence on the show distasteful for obvious reasons. At any rate, Clemens admits he was entertained by the basic premise of the show but put off by the reality show fakeness of it...if Spike TV really wants to encounter Bigfoot, maybe they'd have better luck up north where Bigfoot Is Wandering Michigan Man's Property And Eating Pizza, or at least that's what he told police after getting fed up with his big, hairy, trespassing neighbor...Who Forted shares an interesting image someone caught on the well-known Patterson-Gimlin Patty footage and asks, Bob Gimlin peeping on Patty? We do see the face but we also see the Travelocity Gnome a few feet to the right of that face too, so we have to conclude this is just a pretty good case of pareidola. Meanwhile, author Kirk Sigurdson has a rather unique take on Bigfoot hoaxes and claims that some hoaxers were actually covert agents, including Ivan Sanderson: Agent Provocateur.
Teddy Roosevelt was impressed with the tale of a mountain man's tales brush with a wendigo, but is their encounter just be a story? A chance discovery by bookworm Ken Summers reveals another piece of the puzzle. The mountain man's first name, along with some personal details, match up with Roosevelt's account of meeting with Bauman. If only the 19th century had Facebook, Ken's life would've been made easier. Speaking of which, Chris Savia exhorts everyone to Save The Date, The National March For Bigfootis coming up in August as the latest in sasquatch slacktivism. Started as something jokey, Chris recommends contributing some serious perspective to the event, while retaining a fortean sense of humor.

Book Review: The Man Who Filmed Nessie by Angus Dinsdale
Truly excellent book on a largely forgotten Loch Ness Monster researcher
This is not so much a book about the Loch Ness Monster (although it does form part of the story) as it is about the man who got a film of Nessie in 1960, Tim Dinsdale, a former aeronautic engineer who gave up that career to chase monsters. It is a loving biography written by his youngest son which details Tim's early life in China and emigration to England as a young boy. Tim read an article in True Magazine in 1959 about the mysterious creatures of Loch Ness which prompted him to take journeys from his home in England north to Scotland (within driving distance) taking all kinds of equipment with him, including specialized cameras and lights and all kinds of supplies. He eventually began using a boat, using the boat to drift in the Loch with his camera set up. In April of 1960, before he got a boat, he filmed a possible Nessie creature from the shore. He also took a second film of a boat in the same location about an hour later for comparison and the object he filmed was different and larger than the boat. He took part in several Nessie hunts and expeditions and even lectured at different schools and colleges and other functions in England and Edinburgh. He did have other sightings of Nessie, but never again got it on film. He worked with several organizations including the Academy of Applied Sciences (headed by Robert Rines) and one individual used an autogyro to fly over the Loch searching for the creature. The author and his family would accompany Tim on some of his expeditions and even help out on occasion with technical aspects. Tim lived a rich full life, and when he passed away in 1987, he had gained more fame than he expected because of his film. All in all, this book is really a wonderful read and a tremendously entertaining biography. I give this one a 10 out of 10.

The Bay Area has apparently won the lottery on new species discovery, as scientists there have uncovered 38 new species of ants, geckos, barnacles, sand dollars and sea fans along with many others. They even discovered a new salamander in their own California backyard. All those discoveries were made in 2013, which goes to show that we really haven't seen all there is to see here on earth. Meanwhile, a W.Va. biologist discovers new crawfish species, names it after legendary Hatfield clan. He dubbed the creature Cambarus hatfieldi which is okay, we suppose but we really thought it'd be much more entertainingly epic to name it "Devil Anse"...And speaking of entertaining, check out these absurd birds that take shape when Bird Taxidermy Imagines Bizarre New Species. If birds with pompadours and dreadlocks were to show up on our back porch, we'd consider taking up birdwatching.

Aside from the thylacine hunt that's made the news recently, Australia's cryptozoology research efforts also extend to the ongoing search for Yowie, Bigfoot's Aussie cousin. Rex Gilroy, "father of Australian cryptozoology", says that the idea that Yowie is a tall, hair covered ape is completely wrong. Instead, he says that "Yowies are a living form of Homo Erectus." Gilroy believes that there are tribes of Yowie living in certain secluded areas of the Australian outback. So far, the Yowie haven't made themselves available for photos or videos, but Gilroy is determined to find them. In his spare time he also hunts for evidence of black panthers who are a little less shy and have been spotted all over the country...So, What does Bigfoot look like? Andrew Holmes says that a close look back along the branches of the Ape family tree might yield big clues to Bigfoot's appearance with Gigantopithecus, an ancestor of modern apes that stood 8 feet tall. Holmes adds that one thing is for sure about the ongoing mystery--that Bigfoot definitely does not resemble in any way the "body" that Rick Dyer is hauling around the country. And lastly, Bradford Today is wondering if this video is Real or fake Bigfoot footage from Pennsylvania? There's not a chance that the video is real, but this video is actually a very good example of how to spot a fake. Think about it—what's more likely, that an extremely lucky witness just happened to get a perfectly shot video of Bigfoot who thoughtfully strides across the field of view in a straight line or a guy and his buddy rented an ape suit and shot a quick spoof video to stick up on YouTube? Another big clue is that Bigfoot is not blurry. As everyone knows, real Bigfoot have a built in defense mechanism that automatically blurs them from view preventing clear photos or videos!
