Frank Yarborough of Clover, SC, got a surprise when hauling in his catch on Lake Wylie. As Yarborough grabbed what he thought was a catfish, the fish grabbed him with a set of very humanlike teeth. The mystery fish has been tentatively identified as a type of pacu from the Amazon River in South America, probably released from someone's collection of aquarium fish. With photo. And, as samples from this fish are on their way to laboratories for specific identification, one of the world's foremost Internet sites for the examination of exotic and mysterious creatures gets a high five from the crew here at The Anomalist for half a decade's worth of dedication to the pursuit of knowledge. It's all laid out by Loren Coleman inFive Years of Cryptomundo, with lots of images. Then Coleman gets the next five years underway by welcoming guest blogger Markus Felix Buhler, German cryptozoologist and author of Der Herr der Tiefe: Kryptofiction, who explains the rich history of Europe's once prolific large creatures inEurope's Lost Megafauna, Part 1.
