Son of Trunko! ShukerNature
With the help of fellow cryptozoological researcher Markus Hemmler, Dr. Karl Shuker begins to put to rest a mystery that arose years ago when he followed up reports of a huge creature that washed ashore in South Africa in the mid 1920s with reports of a similar creature having been discovered on the shores of bleak Glacier Island in Alaska in 1930. Here Shuker reveals the information Hemmler assembled that appears to settle, once and for all, exactly what these large beached blobs were that were discovered so many thousands of miles apart in the early 20th century. Elsewhere, Laotian officials have promised new conservation efforts to protect the habitat of an endangered gazelle-like animal captured by villagers in August. The captured creature died shortly after officials made it to the village, as described in Rare Asian 'Unicorn' Captured. Loren Coleman has more photos and more information on the unfortunate capture and death of the rare creature in New Saola Encountered, Dies. Meanwhile, Coleman has the history and some photos regarding another rare Asian creature as he reveals in New Search for Pink-Headed Duck. Also, J. W. Ocker, author of The New England Grimpendium, provides photos to go along with his report Bigfoot and Me: A Visit to the International Cryptozoology Museum.

Author Nick Redfern has several books about cryptid creatures to his credit, but what he speaks of in this article is a monster created from Filipino legend and the inventive mind of an American psywarrior, Major General Edward G. Lansdale, a former member of the famous World War II clandestine organization known as the OSS, the Office of Strategic Services. In the 1950s, what is today known as Psychological Operations was known as Psychological Warfare and then, as today, it was a portion of the large Special Operations force of the United States military. Lansdowne, operating with his team in the Philippines during the reign of terror spawned by the Communist Hukballahap forces, more commonly know as the Huks, was asked to devise a plan to disrupt Huk operations, and Redfern tells of Lansdowne's use of a local legendary vampiric creature and an ambush at night on a jungle trail that did just that. Elsewhere, some of the monsters legendary high strangeness author Brad Steiger writes of in his latest book are real, though many others have not yet been scientifically proven, and many are mentioned in Paul Dale Roberts' review of Real Monsters, Gruesome Critters, and Beasts from the Darkside.
