During an Everest trek in December 1983-January 1984, the writer rounded a corner and saw what was "clearly a primate of some sort. Not huge, between 3 and 4 feet tall. Thick reddish hair like an orangutan. Long arms." They looked at one another for 10 seconds, then the creature turned and climbed out of sight. A sherpa confirmed that it was a Yeti.
