Book Review: Heretofore: Unknown by Lee Murphy
This is a really terrific cryptofiction book, following the exploits of an explorer named George Kodiak, who travels to Louisiana to investigate an unusual corpse that is found and brought to the Audobon Zoo in New Orleans. The corpse resembles a Bigfoot a bit, but there are unusual characteristics to this creature which don't seem to match your typical hairy hominid. This is the Honey Island Swamp Monster, and there are many of them which crop up throughout the story. Plus, there is a bit of that old black magic scattered throughout the entire book, with VooDoo priests and priestesses and a killer storm which threatens to sweep them all away. Also, members of the Texas Bigfoot Research Conservancy are featured as characters in the book, with one of them suffering a rather gruesome end at the hand of a HISM. I give this terrific book a 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.
