Peruvians Walked Their Prayers Into the Earth NewScientist
Maverick science: Current research into patterns in the desert of Peru is suggesting new reasons for the geoglyphs there. Changes in the Earth's magnetic field seemingly indicate compaction of the ground through repeated traversing of the lines, leading Tomasz Gorka of Germany's Munich University to propose the lines were walked as part of a prayer ritual. Note the comments to this proposal which doesn't address the bioforms etched into the sands of Nazca. Could the bioforms have been presented for the "eye of god"? Elsewhere, the history of Man's efforts at communicating with extraterrestrial life is presented in Attempts to Contact Aliens Date Back 150 Years; scientists are attempting to understand one of the scourges of the Earth, an effort that brought to light that a Common Chemical Causes Locusts to Swarm; and an age-old source of wonderment continues to baffle science, as explained in Blushing 'An Evolutionary Mystery'.
