Interview: Cryptozoologist Loren Coleman, part 2

The editors of the legendary magazine blog a letter from a concerned citizen seeking protection for a species the letter writer admits may not exist. Then readers get to comment: suburban bushwacker says, "Strangely he has a point, strangely." Sharkfin comments, "I agree, this would probably stop the harassment by beef jerky eating pranksters." MLH wrote, "All mythological creatures should demand equal rights." And Pacific Hunter, referring to the letter writer, says, "This guy is brilliant, maybe he can run for President in the next election." Don't miss the chance to add your comments to the growing list of those responding to this letter. Meanwhile, there's information, including the back cover blurb, for a new look at the critters reported across the Lone Star State, noted in Monsters of Texas - Almost Ready. Elsewhere, one of the world's leading cryptozoologists, the head of the International Cryptozoology Museum, answers questions for journalist Scott Bowen in Interview: Cryptozoologist Loren Coleman, Part 2.

Mysterious animal spotted in Brown County

Richard Muirhead reviews an account from a 1960 edition of Frontier Times that tells of a 1936 expedition across the Great Salt Lake Desert of Utah, tracing the trail of the ill-fated Donner Party in 1850. Dr. Walter M. Stookey was the man who traced the Donner trail, and what he found makes for some surprising conclusions. While Dr. Stookey's retracing of the trail took place 86 years after the Donner's passed by, there was much evidence of the Donner Party's trek, including discarded trunks and clothing, wagon parts and the skeletal remains of oxen. But what was most surprising was the discovery of giant bird nests, an astonishing discovery that still hasn't been explained. Elsewhere, a Texas town is up in arms after reports of an out-of-place African big cat, as seen in Reports of Lion Loose in Marshall, Residents React. Meanwhile, Scott Bowen speaks with the head of the International Cryptozoology Museum, one of the world's foremost cryptozoologists, in Interview: Cryptozoologist Loren Coleman, Part 1. Loren Coleman gives a short lead in to the June edition DownEast Magazine article by Rob Sneddon entitled Mysteries of Maine that includes more than just cryptids among the phenomena revealed. But, in Lindsay Selby's latest report, a cryptid is the focal point of stories emanating from the Andes Mountains of South America. Selby brings you news of a Bigfoot-type creature South Americans have reported since, at least, 1956, as she details in The Ucu. Do the Andes have their own Yeti?

An elementary school in a small northern California community is the scene of a new series of melanistic large cat sightings. With the Dept. of Fish and Game saying that one has to attack before they can take action, concerned parents have decided to post a graphic warning of their own. Says Loren Coleman: "There just are not suppose to be any 'black panthers' – i.e. melanistic large felids – in California. Yes, mountain lions exist there, but black mountain lions are not verified zoologically." Over at Crytozoology Online, Dale Drinnon Attempts a Composite Jersey Devil Profile, and Lindsay Selby updates us on sightings at Loch Ness in recent times, including the report of a hump seen in the waters in June of 2009.

Has Ben Radford, the managing editor of the Skeptical Inquirer, made a major breakthrough regarding the Chupacabras? It seems he has identified a precise media event that led to the explosive beginnings of the widespread interest in Chupacabras beginning in 1995. In this post, Loren Coleman examines how well the explanation holds up to the facts. Elsewhere, Coleman covers the The Bald Beast of Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug, which is getting a lot of play as Reminiscent of the Montauk Monster, but this article gives the solution away in the headline: New Montauk Monster? This time it’s an otter.
