That curious creature trapped in China that such cryptozoological experts as Loren Coleman of the International Cryptozoology Museum (and more books than we have room to mention) say is most likely a civet cat is heading to Beijing for DNA testing. Chinese scientists say, "We have ways of making this creature's DNA talk." With picture. Meanwhile, a woman living near England's infamous Cannock Chase, a hotbed of weird happenings through the years, saw something she didn't expect recently, as reported in Panther Pounces as Woman Walks Her Dog.

The Unidentified and Creatures of the Outer Edge, the Early Works of Jerome Clark and Loren Coleman comes under review by Peter Rogerson. Rogerson finds these two volumes, wrapped into one by Anomalist Books, to still hold an edge in some respects, but to show the youthfulness of their co-authors and the sway the early 1970s Western culture had over the two at the time the books were originally released. According to Rogerson, the two volumes command a handsome price at used book dealers' stalls. Clark's and Coleman's views about some events that are now considered a bit mundane are viewed by Rogerson as the effects of the times before Roswell struck everyone's fancy, while "some surprising figures were taken in by what today look like the crude magic tricks of Uri Geller."

An Early Tale of Chipekwe Cryptozoology Online
Lindsay Selby continues a far ranging look at monsters of lakes and rivers with these tales of a creature said to inhabit the waters at the foot of Victoria Falls in Africa. While many would attribute these tales to the imagination of the natives, consider the announcement of a new discovery in the Philippines, Dragon-sized Lizard Eluded Science, Until Now. With photo. Elsewhere, The Blogsquatcher notes the similarities between a legendary Chiricahua Apache warrior and Bigfoot in Geronimo and His "Power". With photo. And Loren Coleman gives a heads-up to anyone who might be journeying to Portland, ME, around May 7th to visit the gala event lined up for that weekend, featuring The Maine Iceman: Crypto-Gaff for a Good Cause, being assembled by the International Cryptozoology Museum. With many images.
Lon Strickler posts his correspondence with an individual identified as "Matt" who was introduced to Strickler through David Eckhart, an experiencer who has helped other experiencers to reveal what they've undergone. Matt relates events he participated in in the North Port/Punta Gorda area of Florida, involving alleged reptilian beings some are referring to as "dragons". Strickler incorporates several videos into this tale of alien visitation and abductions. There are also several links to even more videos, and Strickler promises, "This saga will continue...". Are dragon-like beings using North Port and Punta Gorda as their private stomping grounds? Do they have some agenda?

Tomorrow night (Thursday, April 8) at 10 o'clock EST, Ash and Mark welcome some guests with vaunted credentials in the world of cryptozoology. Nick Redfern, Adam Davies, Linda Godfrey and Cliff Barackman join the downloadable podcast to talk of creatures that skulk on the corners of reality - some say they really exist, some say they don't, but everyone says they're extremely interesting. Meanwhile, another famous member of the cryptozoology school, Loren Coleman, has been bombarded by a mainstream media thirsty for information about a strange looking creature captured in China. Here's Coleman's original story: Chinese Chupacabras? That posting includes the Daily Telegraph article entitled "'Oriental Yeti' Discovered in China" that started it all. Coleman says the so-called "Yeti" trapped in China is probably a civet with mange, although we think it's most likely a female civet that got carried away with the hot waxing in preparation for bikini season. Apparently, that civet in China isn't the only victim of mistaken identity, as you'll see in A Tale of Two Loren Colemans.

Loren Coleman makes note of the latest issue of a signature book from Anomalist Books, The Anomalist No. 14: Electricity of the Mind, and, in particular, three of the items included in this "Nonfiction Anthology." Coleman points out three items from the anthology that have connections to cryptozoology, beginning with Theo Paijmans' "The Topography of the Damned" and ending with Tim Cridland's "The Real James Randi." In between, he discloses some errors in "The Continuing Strange Tale of the Thylacine: A Growth Function for a Small Population" by Chris Payne. With images, including cover art. And in another offering, Coleman takes a look at a particular cryptozoological collectible in World's Most Recognized Bigfoot Cast, with numerous photos.
Monsters of the Lakes Fortean Times
Could lake monsters, reports of which dominate folklore around the world, be more of a paranormal phenomenon than a cryptid phenomenon? Here are some reasons to speculate that sightings of these creatures may be the result of the creatures being paranormal entities momentarily materializing before startled witnesses. Elsewhere, Nick Redfern, who has an article in the book, gives a preliminary review of The American Goliah in Giants on the Rampage, and Micah Hanks does likewise with the as of yet unpublished new book from Mark A. Hall and Loren Coleman, True Giants: Myth, Legend, Folklore, and Fact, to be published by Anomalist Books, in Larger Than Life: True (Hairy) Giants!
From today's maverick science announcements: Another candidate for the title of "Missing Link" in the effort to trace a path of evolution from ape to Man has been excavated from a cave in the South African Unesco World Heritage Site of Sterkfontein. The reportedly 2M-year-old remains of a child, almost complete, were discovered in Malapa Cave by Professor Lee Berger from the University of Witwatersrand, and Loren Coleman has more on the discovery at Cryptomundo in the report New "Missing Link" Discovered, with images. Elsewhere, thermal imaging gives an odd read-out in Pac-Man Shows Up on the Surface of Saturn's Moon Mimas. Meanwhile, misunderstandings abound in the interpretation of a "so-called supernova remnant" as explained
by Stephen Smith in The Dust of Creeds Unknown.
