Review: Bigfoot: America's King Kong/Nite Callers Tomorrow...

B:AKK was pretty good, mostly a call-in show since the guest Jimmy Chilcutt was unable to be on the show due to technical issues and miscommunication. So, Bill and I called in and discussed the recent supposed photo from Kentucky as well as some of the more recent Bigfoot news. Hopefully, Jordy and Abe will have Jimmy on next Friday, 9:00 EST/8:00 Central.

Thom Powell, a Clackamas County resident junior high school science teacher and author of The Locals: A Contemporary Investigation of the Bigfoot/Sasquatch Phenomenon has never seen a bigfoot. He is a skeptic. But in years of research, he's convinced there's no reason the creature - if it exists - could not freely roam up and down the Tualatin River. As Powell sees it, the river is a natural migration route for animals traveling back and forth between the Coast Range and the Cascades. Given the elusive and nocturnal tendencies attributed to Bigfoot, as well as the heavily wooded ravines that cris-cross the area, a large and intelligent animal could go all but undetected. "All bets are off at night," Powell said. "We are absolutely not inhabitants of the landscape at night, so whatever's inhabiting it, we have no awareness of it, we can't do anything about it, and we absolutely can't document it." Powell is of the opinion that any real life Bigfoot is likely a hominid, the scientific classifications for all animals on the "human" side of man's evolutionary divergence from the ancestors of modern apes, an even believed to have occurred some 15 - 30 million years ago. "Neanderthals may not be as extinct as we think" he said. In The Locals, Thom Powell approaches the subject as a middle-school science teacher (surely among the most jaded and cynical of professions) who used the Sasquatch phenomenon to teach the difference between junk science and the scientific method. After some years of automatically characterizing the Sasquatch as junk science, he realized that, tabloid journalism notwithstanding, rigorous scientific inquiry and the scientific method were precisely what the Sasquatch phenomenon needed. And as always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.

Computer scans of New Zealand fossils may have helped scientists unravel a mystery about a giant raptor that became extinct 500 years ago. Says a researcher: "The science supports Maori mythology of the legendary pouakai or hokioi, a huge bird that could swoop down on people in the mountains and was capable of killing a small child." Also, the Great Tit Turns Out to be a Killer, as recent finds suggest that bats can now be added to the Great Tit's menu.

A cellphone picture supposedly captured by a fisherman is circulating on the net of an unknown object or cryptid near a lake in Argentina. Some claim it's a pterodactyl, some a UFO, since the image is difficult to determine one way or another. But others are doubtful to its overall authenticity at all. With a follow-up that asks the question: Pterodactyls Or Windshield Cracks? Also on Cryptomundo, a Chicago-Area Black Panther Sighting.

The Norfolk Sea Serpent? Still on the Track
A roundup of reports of a sea serpent said to be up to 60ft in length and very fast moving off the coast of Norfolk in the UK. The descriptions evoke classic sea-serpent characteristics of small head, long slim body and diamond-shaped frill along the back. The most recent report dates back to 1978. Elsewhere, Loren Coleman and a few hundred other people went on a Sea Serpent Whale Watch from Bar Harbor, Maine last week. With photos.
The "Hobbit" is slipping into height charts with the other folks, including Homo floresiensis, just as other cryptozoological figures are showing up in pseudo-police lineups. Elsewhere, a skeptic questions a couple of recent photos in Fairies and Bigfoot.

Review: The Grey Area 9-9-09/Bigfoot: America's King Kong Tomorrow...

This was a pretty terrific show, with guest Craig Woolheater, who discussed the upcoming 9th-Annual Texas Bigfoot Conference as well as the speakers who will be presenting at the event, such as Esteban Sarmiento, Peter Matthiesen, Bill Dranginis, John Bindernagel, John Mionczynski, Loren Coleman, Jerry Hestand, Alton Higgins and Daryl Colyer. I called in and talked to Craig about the Conference and also asked about the change to Tyler, Texas from Jefferson. Several questions were also asked from the chat. In 2 weeks, Larry Battson will return for part 2 of a discussion he took part in last month, September 23, 9:00 EST/8:00 Central.

Please join Jordan and Elusive as they invite Jimmy Chilcutt to the show! Jimmy Chilcutt is a fingerprint expert witness, formerly of the Conroe Police Department, Texas. Before retiring from police work, he accumulated eighteen years as a latent fingerprint examiner and crime scene investigator. He holds a Master Police Officer Certification from the State of Texas. Chilcutt rose to prominence in the world of bigfoot research after watching Jeff Meldrum mention dermal ridges on a TV documentary. Chilcutt contacted Melrum and arranged to examine a number of plaster casts of alleged bigfoot footprints at Idaho State University, after which Chilcutt declared that they were of an unknown primate. In 2003, Chilcutt gave a presentation at the International Bigfoot Symposium in Willow Creek, California, and subsequently told the British Broadcasting Corporation, "I know there's an animal out there, because I've seen the physical evidence." And as always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.
Thunderbirds of the Southwest Phantoms & Monsters
For years people in the desert southwestern United States have been reporting seemingly impossibly large birds. Those who haven't made such sightings have placed the claims alongside the chupacabras and the Jersey Devil, humorous legends they say defy belief. But the stories of huge birds or birdlike creatures continue across southern New Mexico and parts of Texas. Here are some accounts of these sightings. There are legends of fantastic creatures in the United Kingdom, too, and here's the tale of one legendary creature being sought in England's longest lake: Psychic and Photographer in Hunt for 'Bownessie' Beneath Windermere.

Editorial: Did a Kentucky Game Cam Capture Sasquatch?

A new photo has surfaced from Jefferson County, Kentucky, of what appears to be some sort of being, dark, mysterious, unknown (or IS it unknown?). It appears to some to be a possible Sasquatch or at the very least a gorilla of some sort, but there are those who have said it is actually a bird in mid-flight, a crow or turkey vulture or buzzard. That is the direction I lean in as well, that it is most likely a bird of some sort caught in mid-flight. But, even if it WERE a photo of a Sasquatch, it does not solve the mystery and proves nothing. It makes for interesting conversation, but ultimately it is in the same class as the Jacobs Photos, the Polish Videos which recently surfaced, the Freeman footage, the Memorial Day footage and yes, the Patterson/Gimlin Film-it does not prove that Sasquatch exists. It only provides us with an interesting image or footage or video and something to talk about, but ultimately it does not get us any closer to solving the mystery. Whether this new photo is of a Sasquatch, bird, bear or just a trash bag blowing in the wind, it will still not get us any closer to resolution of this issue.
A team of explorers is getting set to adventure into the wilds of Sumatra with team leader Adam Davies, cryptozoologist and author of Extreme Expeditions: Travel Adventures Stalking the World's Mystery Animals. Davies and his companions will be seeking the elusive Orang Pendek with the help of the native Kubu people who have often witnessed the bipedal hairy hominoid in the rainforests. They will also be attempting to document the existence of other cryptids reported by the Kubu, such as large horned snakes and golden cats with out-sized canine teeth. With images. Meanwhile, at Cryptozoology Online, a website of the United Kingdom's Centre for Fortean Zoology (CFZ), Davies shares His Hopes for the Expedition. Several CFZ members are accompanying Davies on the Sumatra trek. Elsewhere, there's now a video news report about America's huge hairy hominoid at CNN: Backyard Bigfoot?

Review: Bigfoot Quest 9-8-09/2 Shows Tonight...

This was a pretty terrific show, which was originally to have Dr. Robert Alley as the guest, but he was once again unable to make it, so they will try again for next week. It wound up being a call-in show, with Bill Green and I calling in to talk about the newest possible photo from Kentucky as well as some issues in the Bigfoot world. Bill and I mildly debated about the new Kentucky photo as well as some issues in the Bigfoot world, and Bobbie Short and Don Keating called in also. Bobbie's website, www.bigfootencounters.com was plugged on CNN yesterday in a story about the Kentucky photo, and Don was giving his .02 cents on the Kentucky photo. Hopefully, Bob and Mike will have Dr. Alley on next week, beginning at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central. And as always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.

Review: Sasquatch Watch Radio 9-07-09

This was a pretty good show, with guests Hawk Spearman and Lugo Raimondo, who discussed a good bit about their research and their activity that they have experienced, including where Lugo videotaped something in the state of Texas a few years ago which may have been a Sasquatch. Hawk talked a good bit about his encounters and sightings and also his research in Alabama and Ohio. Both men answered several questions from the chat as well. Not sure what Billy and DB have planned for next week, but it begins at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central. And as always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.

While noted cryptozoologist Loren Coleman has been on the lecture circuit, Brent Swancer has filled in with analysis of a legendary Japanese cryptid. The Raiju, literally "thunder beast," is one of the most popular legendary creatures of Japan, and Swancer expands on the creature's attributes in Raiju - Part II. With classic illustrations. Swancer also offers another look at cryptids from the Land of the Rising Sun in Giant Snakes of Japan. Meanwhile, at Cabinet of Wonders, the subject is The Dog-Headed Man of Southern California.

Reviews: HBM's Crypto-Corner/Nite Callers 9-6-09/Sasquatch Watch Radio Tonight...

HBM's was pretty good, discussing with Abe Del Rio and John Cartwright different forms of evidence for cryptids, mostly for Sasquatch, such as footprints with dermal ridges, videos and films, DNA samples and other forms of evidence. We also deviated a bit into territory of the recent claims on the Patterson/Gimlin Film, as well as discussing the return of the Sasquatch Experience. We are working on a special guest for our next show, September 20, back at our regular start time of 9:30 EST/8:30 Central. And, don't forget, next month is our Second-Annual Authors' Month.

On Nite Callers, Lauren and Luke were at home manning the phone lines and the chat, while Laurie and Jason were in the field, and got some interesting vocalizations as well as seeing eyeshine while on the air. I called in and discussed some of what the SE has planned as well as discussing various topics with them. Next Sunday, they will be back at their regular start time of 7:00 EST/6:00 Central and their guest will be author Thom Powell (The Locals).

Micah Hanks, inspired by the recent reader-selected Haunted America Tours Top Ten Cryptids list, puts together his own list, focusing on the lesser-known monsters that haven't garnered the "love" the Haunted America Tours monsters have collected. Only one "conventional" monster makes Hanks' list. As for the others, how many do you recognize? Meanwhile, a monster from the Indian sub-continent, Tibet and Southeast Asia gets mention in Dale Drinnon: The Buru; and recent commentary by Michel Meurger draws a response in Richard Freeman: Multi Heads Don't Make a Myth.
