Review: Beyond The Edge Radio 1-18-08
This was a pretty great show, with Mike Frizzell, co-founder of the Enigma Project, who discussed such things as "Chessie" the Chesapeake Bay Monster, Bigfoot in Maryland, Ice Balls falling from the sky, UFO reports and other strange events in Maryland. Several folks called in, including myself, who was the first caller, who asked about the Selbyville Monster hoax case which was investigated by the late Mark Chorvinsky, editor of the now-defunct Strange Magazine. Brian Seech called in as well and asked about other mystery cases as well, and Scott Hackenslash discussed upcoming remakes in the year 2008, but seemed most excited by the upcoming big-screen treatment of the classic TV series Get Smart starring Steve Carell as Maxwell Smart. There was also a new segment about upcoming conferences and meetings in the world of the Paranormal. Great show as always. Next week, Eric and Sean welcome parapshychologist and author Lloyd Auerbach (Hauntings and Poltergeists: A Ghost Hunter's Guide) beginning at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central at the link to the right. DVD Review: Heartbreak and Triumph: The Shawn Michaels Story
This 3-disc DVD set is not a complete chronicle of the career of "The Heartbreak Kid," but is a pretty good representation of one of the most dynamic performers in the WWE. It covers his early life and his desire to be a wrestler, at the Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, to his early career after High School in which he began wrestling in Texas and Louisiana, to his fateful meeting with Marty Jannetty and their pairing in the old American Wrestling Association (AWA) as the Midnight Rockers, where they defeated "Playboy" Buddy Rose and "Pretty Boy" Doug Somers for the AWA Tag Team Championships. After dropping the belts, and still under contract to the AWA, the Rockers went to New York and the WWE and made a huge splash there, even winning the WWE Tag Team Championships from the Hart Foundation (Bret "Hitman" Hart and Jim "The Anvil" Neidhardt) in a non-televised 2-out-of-3 falls match. Unfortunately, because of the match being unrecognized due to the top rope snapping, the titles were returned to the Hart Foundation, and the Rockers continued on till a fateful segment on Brutus Beefcake's Barber Shop in which Michaels superkicked Jannetty and threw him through a plate-glass window, thus becoming "The Heartbreak Kid" and pairing up with "Sensational" Sherri Martel. He defeated "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith for his first singles title, the Intercontinental Title, his first of three. Michaels also had some personal troubles behind the scenes, which caused tension between himself and the wrestlers in the dressing room and WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, even after Michaels won the WWE Title from Hart in a 60-Minute Iron Man Match at Wrestlemania 12 in 1996. His forming of the multi-federation organization known as "The Clique" (Triple-HHH, Scott "Razor Ramon" Hall, Kevin "Diesel" Nash and Sean "X-Pac" Waltman) is highlighted, as well as his falling-out with Triple HHH and eventual reconciliation. Shawn found faith thanks to his wife Rebecca, and he and his wife have two beautiful children today and are both strong Christians. Michaels has won at least 3 World Titles, the World Tag Team Titles, the Intercontinental Title and the now-defunct European Title, making him the first-ever Grand-Slam Champion of the WWE. Michaels' career is covered on Disc 1; on Discs 2 and 3 are some memorable matches, from WCCW (World Class Championship Wrestling), the AWA and WWE. Tag matches with Jannetty from the AWA and WWE are profiled, as is his first I-C Title win from the British Bulldog, as is his 1995 victory in the Royal Rumble, winning and lasting even though he came in at Number 1. His third I-C Title win is shown on Disc 3, winning over "Double-J" Jeff Jarrett, as well as a match on Raw with then-World Heavyweight Champion Triple-HHH, as well as a reunion with his former tag team partner Jannetty in a win over La Resistance, a match against Kurt Angle at the 2005 Vengeance Pay-Per-Veiew, and the Disc (and entire set) is rounded out with a win on Raw over then-WWE Champion John Cena in a non-title match that went nearly an hour. This is a great DVD set, and I highly recommend it to all WWE fans and fans of HBK.
Review: Encounters With The Unexplained-Bigfoot: Real Monster or Urban Myth? (2001)
This was a great program which gave a great overview of the Bigfoot Mystery up to the early-21st Century, hosted by the late, great Jerry Orbach (doing double-duty alongside his Law & Order gig at that time), featuring some prominent researchers such as Ron Morehead, John Bindernagel, Grover Krantz, Jeff Meldrum, Jimmy Chilcutt and others. The Ape Canyon story is recounted, as is the E. Walker account from 1840. There are several beautiful paintings shown of Sasquatch-like creatures. Drs. Krantz and Bindernagel give their impressions of descriptions of the creature, as well as the reticence of the scientific community to study the phenomena. Another eyewitness account from a fellow named Billy Riley is also recounted by Riley himself, who saw a Sasquatch in his home state of Missouri in the early-70's. The creature apparently chased the young man to a farmer's house, but left him alone. Dr. Bindernagel also recounts the Teddy Roosevelt-written Bauman incident from the 1840's. The footprint evidence is also examined by Dr. Meldrum and Chilcutt, and there is the obligatory showing of the Patterson/Gimlin Movie. It is a fair and balanced look at the subject, without all the rampant skepticism that sometimes permeates programs of similar style. I enjoyed this one.

Review: The Sasquatch Triangle 1-17-08
This was a great show, with guest Ohio Bigfoot/UFO Investigator Paul Rozich, who discussed several cases of UFO sightings in the Buckeye State, as well as Bigfoot reports. Sometimes the two did intertwine, implying a possible connection, but Rozich leaves that possibility open to interpretation. Rozich was also asked about his connection to Robert W. Morgan and about his research with Morgan, as well as his former post at Artist First as host of the program UFOs: Did You Ever Wonder? We did get a couple of prank calls, unfortunately, but we also got calls from Mike Feltner and a fellow named Bruce from Boston, whom Don and his wife met at the Mass Monster Mash back in October. All in all, it was a great show, full of great information. Next Thursday, Don will host Jim Donahoe of London, Ohio, beginning at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central at the link to the right. Review: Let's Talk Bigfoot 1-16-08
This was a great show, with guests Billy Willard and Tom Lancaster, who discussed their research and also the topography of Virginia and how it can support creatures like Sasquatch. Billy recounts his brother's sighting of something near Quantico Marine Base, which is where the late Danne Buchanan had his encounter. Melissa got help from Kathy Strain on this night as well. Sound encounters are discussed, as well as Billy's brief sighting. Billy had been doing surveillance in the field when he saw a creature from the waist up on the side of the road, and was surprised to see an actual creature. Trash was also seen 30 feet off the road in the woods, in bags, which did not seem to have been done by humans throwing their trash out their car windows. Billy is not saying that a Bigfoot did all this, and feels it important to point that out. It was a great and informative show. Next week, Melissa hosts the ever-controversial Robert W. Review: Let's Talk Bigfoot 1-9-08
This was a great show, with guest William Dranginis, who discussed some of the methods he uses in his search, such as using technology such as forensics and cameras hidden in the forest. Bill was lost for a bit, but managed to make it back. Teresa Hall also joined in on the conversation, taking a break from beating those wolves (J/K, T!!!). Bill says his most valuable tool in the field is thermal imaging, which he has not had any success with so far, but he is undaunted. A highly detailed hair report sent to Kathy Strain is also discussed, as is Bill's 1995 sighting with two FBI agents. The sighting took place during a metal-detecting exercise. Bill also told of reports in the area and in the state. Hair samples were collected as a result of one report and were sent to the Washington Museum of Natural History, and the hair was found as closely matching human hair. The mineral content was also higher than humans. Blood and fleas were also found in the hairs, but have not been tested for fear of cross-contamination. It was a great show, full of great information.
