Review: Beyond The Edge Radio 10-26-07

This was a great two-hour show, with paranormal investigator Rick Fisher, who discussed spirits, EVP, Bigfoot, Cryptids and other subjects. He also discussed the Amityville Horror case, as well as the Smurl Case from West Pittson (not Piston) Pennsylvania, as well as answering questions from the chatroom. The beginning of the show had a discussion and list from Scott Hackenslash of the top-ten Horror Movies ever (unfortunately, Halloween seemed to be missing from the list). It was a great show, full of great information. The next program will air next Friday at the regular time of 9:00 EST/8:00 Central with guest Ron Schaffner to discuss Ohio Cryptids. It can be found at the link to the right. As always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.

Review: Beyond The Edge Radio 10-25-07/Beyond The Edge Radio Tonight...

This was a rather short, 15-Minute show, with Sean and Eric giving a special sneak preview of what to expect tonight on the real premiere. I called in and wished them good luck, and also alerted them to the debut of The Curse of Michael Myers on American Movie Classics next Wednesday, Halloween night, at 8:00 EST/7:00 Central. Horror movies will be another topic of the upcoming show, with profiles of and interviews with horror movie icons and directors. It was a great preview show.

Review: The Sasquatch Triangle 10-25-07

This was a great show, with John Horrigan as the guest to discuss the recent Mass Monster Mash as well as some Bigfoot stories he has heard in his research. The show got a late start due to some technical issues, but we got things off the ground after a half-hour. John discussed how disappointed he was in the outcome for the Mass UFO show, but was pleased about the attendance for the Mass Monster Mash. he told some pretty compelling stories as well. Don's next show will be next Thursday at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central at the link to the right. As always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.

Review: Let's Talk Bigfoot 10-24-07

This was a wonderful show, with the one and only John Green discussing his research into the Sasquatch, including his research into the Patterson/Gimlin Movie, his early days of researching and finding tracks, his opinions on today's researchers and research techniques and other things in the Sasquatch field. He explained that he is most assuredly pro-kill, and also discussed Bob Titmus and his efforts and his friendship with Titmus. It was a tremendous show, full of great info, and a true chance to hear a true legend in Sasquatch research. Melissa and Teresa's next show will ne next Wednesday, Halloween Night appropriately enough, with guests Mike Bankston and Steve Hyde, at 10:00 EST/9:00 Central at the link to the right. As always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.

Review: Sasquatch Experience 10-23-07

This was a great show, which we led off with a discussion of those photos from Rick Jacobs of what is turning out more and more to be a bear. We also discussed a bit about our MySpace ventures, as well as something called Operation Pennsylvania Primate, which is being started up by Sean and James and is tentatively scheduled to begin next Spring. We then got into the discussion on the late Rene Dahinden, discussing his life, as well as is accomplishments in the Sasquatch field, along with his eminently quotable sayings. A fellow named Ian called in and told us about another set of photos which also showed up on the BFRO website from Lake Chelan, Washington, of something which appears to be a possible blobsquatch, but is undetermined at this time. The rest of the hour was more discussion of Rene, as well as a poem from the pamphlet of Rene's funeral which Sean read. It was a fun show, and we really enjoyed it. Our next program (and our last Anniversary Month show) will be Sunday at our regular time of 9:00 EST/8:00 Central with a roundtable discussion of the important historical figures in the Sasquatch field, with our guests Larry Lund, Kathy Strain and hopefully Bobbie Short, unless she has to evacuate her home due to the wildfires in her area (we are praying for you, Bobbie!!!) The link to the show can be found at the right, and as always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.

Lake Chelan Photos

With all the hoopalah going on about the "Jacob's Creature Photos", a caller named Ian joined the show tonight and brought these photos to our attention. It seems that these photos collected by the BFRO went with little attention paid. The witness then sent to them to the AIBR, where more attention was given to them. That's all the news we have on these photos as of now - with a still posted above.

Once we know all the facts - we here at SQuatchMEDIA will post our opinions.

One other photo of the Jacobs collection

This photo is of what appears to be the animal bending over and seemingly playing with a young one. I would encourage all of my readers to click on the photo, save it to your hard drive, and use your photo enhancement program to closely examine it, especially the facial area. I closely examined it, and it appears to have a snout and ears on top of the head. The creature has its head bent down, and appears to be looking down on the object lying on the ground and playing with it. Is it a bear? You decide.

Review: The XZone 10-22-07

This was a very interesting segment, with Rob interviewing Rick Jacobs, whose recent trailcam photos have caused quite a stir in the Bigfoot Community (though most of us agree it is NOT a Sasquatch). Rick was asked about this by me, because I called in, and he says he is not claiming they are of a Sasquatch, although a certain organization is claiming just that. All of the possibilities of what this could be were brought up, including the possibility of a CGI or Photoshop job. Bill Green also called in and gave his opinion. It was a great segment, very enjoyable.

Editorial: Anything is "Possible"

A lot of the time, supposed evidence comes in to different Sasquatch research group, and it is immediately put under scrutiny from certain individuals in the Sasquatch Community, and rightfully so. All supposed pieces of evidence should be scrutinized. However, there is a small group of researchers who seem to give evidence the label of "possible"-even if it is a blatant or obvious hoax or misidentification or faked track. Again, when it comes to this field of inquiry, anything is "possible," but I get a bit sick of things being "possible"-I want to see something definitive, something that can be considered absolute proof, something that cannot be disputed. Everything we have right now is "possible" evidence-footprint casts, films, videos, fecal material, hair samples, even eyewitness accounts. What we do NOT have is proof, absolute proof we can hang our hats on and say, "Wow, that looks good." Until the day we get the absolute proof, we will continue to stay stuck in the world of possibilities when it comes to this mystery.

Editorial: Has a juvenile Sasquatch been caught on camera?

A new series of photos have surfaced this week, shown on the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization website which appear to show some kind of object on all fours. The photos are from a game-cam from northwest Pennsylvania. It is a dark, rather large object, which appears to some to be bearlike, but when compared to a photo of an actual bear which was also taken with the same game-cam, it does not seem to fit the characteristics of a bear, unless the bear is extremely mangy and sick (and that possibility has been brought up). The photos appear to show some kind of apelike or primate-like individual on all fours, which could indicate a juvenile Sasquatch, but perhaps not. It could also indicate an escaped primate, such as a chimp or monkey. There is probably a zoo or wildlife preserve in the area which may be missing a chimp or monkey and just has not reported it yet. It is an intriguing series of photos, no doubt, but we do not have enough information to say one way or the other what it is. The photos show SOMETHING, but we do not know what, and will not know what until a body is brought in. See my next editorial for my assessment of "possible" evidence...

Squatch Detective Radio Tonight...

Steve Kulls and Billy Willard will host former police chief Bob Coyne of New Hampshire, who is also the co-host of The Bigfoot Mystery. That show starts at 9:00 EST/8:00 Central and can be found at the link to the right. As always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.

Review: Sasquatch Experience 10-21-07

This was a wonderful show, with Sean and I discussing the Patterson/Gimlin Movie briefly, discussing its impact on the world in general. We also discussed a recent Yahoo News Article about the film, as well as an Editorial I wrote about how Sasquatch defends itself. We also discussed the new possible juvenile Sasquatch photos from Northwest Pennsylvania, and had callers such as Steve Kulls (who actually called in twice) and Don Keating, who also briefly discussed the as-yet-unreleased New Mexico footage, as well as these new photos. It was a great and fun show, and we enjoyed it. Our next program is Tuesday night at 8:00 EST/7:00 Central with a tribute to Rene Dahinden, at the link to the right. As always, we encourage you to please tune in and support great research.

Editorial: How does Sasquatch Defend Itself?

All animals have ways to defend themselves, whether it is scent glands, claws, sharp teeth or even the ability to play dead. These traits are mostly seen in smaller animals with natural predators. The question I am posing in this editorial is: how does Sasquatch defend itself? Well, there are those who think that since it is at the top of the food chain, it would not need to defend itself because it would be the dominant force in the forest, and would not have any natural predators. But, these creatures actually DO have at least one natural predator, and we see it every day when we look in the mirror-Man. We have big guns and rifles which are perfectly capable of killing large animals such as deer, bear, coyote, wolf and elk. Our guns may also be able to kill a Sasquatch which comes into our rifle sights. So how do these creatures defend themselves? Well, for one thing, they are largely nocturnal, and they use the cover of darkness to move around out of sight of human eyes. However, for those times when they are seen, they have one of three options-they can either run very fast, hide behind a grove of trees or bushes to where humans cannot see them, and possibly letting go a scent which can overpower their attackers. Some speculate they also use infrasound to disorient and confuse humans, but this has never been conclusively proven. Still, people have been known to feel that disorienting and nauseating sensation in Sasquatch territory, so it is possible that these creatures do use infrasound. Of course, if they really wanted to, these creatures could just tear a person to shreds with their bare hands, but they choose not to do that, showing great restraint, even when faced with a rifle-toting hunter. So I think this editorial answers the basic question of how these creatures defend themselves, but of course more will be known when a body is brought in.

Editorial: Yahoo News Gets It ALMOST Right

Yesterday, Yahoo News acknowledged the 40th Anniversary of the Patterson/Gimlin Movie with an article. I will present the full text of the article here, with special highlights:

40 years on, 'Bigfoot' film still the benchmark for believers

by Rob Woollard Sat Oct 20, 1:30 PM ET

LOS ANGELES, United States (AFP) - Forty years after two cowboys filmed an unidentified creature ambling through a California forest, hunters of "Bigfoot" say the grainy (this film is NOT grainy, except for the third-generation copies which are seen on some documentaries; the copy seen on Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science, courtesy of John Green, is very clear, as are M.K. Davis' enhancements.) footage remains the cornerstone of their belief in the legendary ape-like beast's existence.

The subject of numerous hoax theories and investigations, Roger Patterson and Tom (should be Bob) Gimlin's film, shot at Willow Creek in the expanse of the Six Rivers National Forest on October 20, 1967, has been debunked, derided and dismissed.

But so far it has never been successfully duplicated, and it is that fact, that Bigfoot devotees say is crucial.

Daniel Perez, the editor of the BigfootTimes.net website and an avowed follower of the beast known as Sasquatch, describes the Patterson-Gimlin footage as the missing piece of the Bigfoot puzzle.

"This is the cornerstone of the entire case for Bigfoot," Perez told AFP. "People say 'It's just a guy in a suit'. Well I beg to differ. If it's a man in a costume, why can't anyone duplicate the film?"

Perez, who will address a conference of Bigfoot believers at Willow Creek on Saturday to mark the film's 40th anniversary, claims that enhancements of the original, jerky footage show the creature's muscles expanding, rippling and contracting from one frame to the next.

"You can't do that with a costume," Perez says. "A costume conceals rather than reveals."

Tom Yamarone, a member of the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization, a US group of enthusiasts who record sightings and embark on hunts for the creature, echoed Perez's argument.

"The Patterson-Gimlin footage, despite it's shakiness, is what we would refer to as the gold standard for visual evidence," says Yamarone.

Yet others are not convinced. In his 2004 book "The Making of Bigfoot" author Greg Long claims to have identified the 'man in the suit' as a worker from Washington state, Bob Hieronimus.

Long also casts a critical eye over Patterson's role in the affair, noting the extraordinary coincidence that he had set out into the forest to shoot a documentary about Bigfoot and returned with footage of the creature

Robert Stein, an expert in trick photography, echoed Long's scepticism in an interview.

"Roger Patterson sets out to make a Bigfoot documentary," he says. "He immediately stumbled upon a Bigfoot. Not only that, he stumbled upon a Bigfoot that was out in the open in bright, clear sunshine, perfect weather for filming. He didn't just beat the odds. He gave the odds a royal whipping."

Patterson, who died of cancer in 1972, is portrayed in Long's book as a chronically unemployed rodeo rider determined to profit from an elaborate hoax.

Gimlin has always insisted the film was genuine, denying any knowledge of Long's claim that Patterson had in fact ordered a gorilla suit from a costume supplier.

And experts in special effects have questioned the 'man-in-a-suit' theory, saying the level of sophistication displayed in the film would likely have been beyond the reach of ordinary hoaxers.

Ryan Peterson, a freelance make-up effects artist who has worked on films such as "Mighty Joe Young" and "Men In Black," believes that if the film was a hoax, the perpetrators were operating years ahead of their time.

"In my opinion, the technology and artistry were not available in 1967 to create such a convincing Bigfoot costume," Peterson wrote in the Salt Lake Tribune this week.

Perez, a 44-year-old electrician who has been chronicling Bigfoot since childhood, says he is open to arguments that the film is a hoax.

"I would be willing to change my view on the subject of the film if they were able to duplicate it," he says. "But you expect me to believe that a broke cowboy and his friend Bob Gimlin make this sophisticated movie? Come on."

As you may notice, I put a few corrections in the article in bold letters. The point is, Yahoo News got it ALMOST right this time, except for a couple of minor mistakes, which is better than saying that Roger Patterson confessed on his deathbed that it was a hoax, as the media did after the death of Ray Wallace nearly 5 years ago. The media seems to be getting better, at least in some aspects, but still has a long way to go in their fact-checking, especially on the subject of Sasquatch. But of course, they still get it wrong in many other aspects of news, whether it be politics or entertainment or world news, or even news that happened across the street. But the writer of this article seemed to really care about the subject (with two minor exceptions) of the P/G Movie and for the most part did his homework. If we can convince the news media to keep getting it more right and more right, we might get more results and better reporting, not just on Sasquatch, but on other, more important pieces of news. Just something to think about.
